The proofing basket is great for rising your loaves. You can use the provided cloth, or simply dust the basket well with flour. I choose the latter, as I like the markings the basket leaves on the loaf. The basket came with a free gift--a dough scraper--which comes in handy! I'll buy this basket again for a friend who likes to bake bread.

These are easy to clean, to use, and give your bread a great appearance. I use a natural bristle brush to clean the excess flour to avoid micro plastic bits. And i have used the bag they came in for months for proofing. I don't use the canvas insert, and the scraper is worthless.

Foul chemical smell could be from an industrial softening agent to bend the rattan. I doubt it's safe around food so I am returning this basket and will look for a traditional one made with steam. Very annoyed to see food products tainted with chemicals. Why can't the FDA ban these imports?
