Sugar, Sugar

What I mean by my Title is I thoroughly enjoyed The Archies during their Hit Making Years and I also agree with The Reviewer "WB" on his/her "April 20th 2001 Review" on this CD. This is another Quality "Repertoire" Product on a 1960s Group and it sounds Great!! Even today: Most people recognize "Sugar Sugar". It became one of the best selling singles in the History of RCA Records & was a Global Smash!! I previously owned "Sugar Sugar" & "Jingle Jangle" on a Various Artist's CD AND THEY SOUNDED HORRIBLE!! Like The Reviewer "WB" said "Trust Me" on this one!! If you are near my age you will probably recognize at least the first six Tunes on this Disc and you will probably also Say Yes With A Smile!! :-) Not bad for a Band who,In A Way, Did not exist at all!! FYI: My two favorite Groups in those days who had Bubblgum Hits were The 1910 FruitGum Company and The Archies. A little History about The Band is in the Liner Notes & the CD comes in a Standard Jewel Protective Case. This Is Nice!!

Behind the cartoon, there was a real band that was quite good. The songs are generally pretty short, as they were used as background music for scenes on the TV show. I would've loved to have heard the band stretch out with songs such as Rock and Roll Music, Don't Touch My Guitar and Love Light. This music is often referred to as "Bubble Gum Rock". As a musician, when I listen to these songs, I hear so much restrained potential. That is, they slip a few good licks in now and then, but you can tell they're holding back. Sort of like a rock band at a 9-year-old's birthday party - you know they got a lot more to give, but they don't want to upset grandma, hahaha! Anyway, for those who used to dig the show, it's a great trip down memory lane; all the songs you remember are here. For those who have never heard of The Archies, this is the definitive album of their work. You may laugh, but if you give it a try, you'll have some of the tunes stuck in your head for days.

I have not heard the more recently released American compilation of The Archies, but this one sounds pretty good, especially on the more major tracks. Lesser-known songs are sometimes tinny and could be richer, but overall it's a perfectly decent listening experience. The selection of tracks here is hard to beat, offering many not available elsewhere. A few of them are admittedly pretty dumb, but overall the Archies are a fun bubblegummy pop band. I'm glad I own this.

I have always enjoyed the music of the Archies. Recently I purchased this CD and was very happy to see ALL of my favorite songs of the Archies all on this one CD. Their music is timeless--as my two childrenAbby and Quentin can attest. They love the Archies as much as I do, all these years later......<wink>.....

I think you have to be from the era, but I really love this compilation of music. I used to watch the cartoon and this is really a great one to add to your collection.
