If you are a fan of adult western novels you want to check out this book review publication.
As a fan of the adult western genres for more than twenty years I could not pass up this text (Hot Lead: The adult western special, 52 pages) when I saw it on Amazon. I was not sure what I was ordering at the time but when it arrived I immediately began reading it. This is basically a written summary review of numerous adult western writers’ and their books. In this respect I found this short volume and excellent reference source if you are searching for some great adult western novels. This volume covers the following information: The adult western super friends, the sleazy riders, sex and his six-guns, bloodied spurs, for a few dollars more, the trailsman, frontier poet and draw! A top ten of western comics. This is a slick magazine format publication and its color illustrations of many of the books are fantastic. I found the articles very informative and may look into some of the adult western books they mentioned in this volume. I was, of course familiar with many of the series they mentioned (Longarm, Lone Star series, Jonah Hex, Slocum and others), but I was unaware of many of the earlier adult western characters. If you are a fan of the adult western novels and are interested in learning more about them you may want to check out this magazine format issue of Hot Lead.Rating: 4 Stars. FANTASTIC OVERVIEW OF THE ADULT WESTERN SUB-GENRE
This is he 3rd issue in the excellent "Hot Lead" fanzine series detailing Western paperback books, this third issue focusing on the sub-genre within Western paperbacks called "Adult Westerns" which managed to successfully combined romance/lust/sex/sleaze/smut with the more traditional guns/violence/shoot-'em-ups typical to Westerns. This Hot Lead issue is amazing, from the fantastic cover, to numerous great articles inside that I think will interest both novices and ardent collectors of adult westerns. I'm a huge fan of several of the series discussed, particularly Renegade and Gunn. Both those series are briefly discussed, and I'm hoping there will be future Hot Lead issues that discuss them and others in even greater detail. This issue gives a grand overview of how Adult Westerns started, the major series, and the writers and editors who created them. Lots of interesting details and history. Also, fairly in-depth articles on these three series: Cimarron, the Trailsman and Ruff Justice. There's also a great checklist of Adult Western series, some titles that were even new to me. And an interesting article on Western comics that were influenced by some of these Adult Western books series, or gave inspiration to them. Overall, another top-tier entry into the Hot Lead fanzine series. Here's hoping there will be many, many more issues of this great fanzine.

Wonderful Summary for Casual Fans and Experts Alike
The third issue of Hot Lead, the fan magazine for lovers of western novels and stories, focuses on the “Adult Western”, meaning those western series, usually long-running, that added quite a few spicy scenes to the action plots. These are the series such as “Longarm” “Slocum”, “Spur”, “The Trailsman”, “Gunn”, etc.Once again Justin Marriott has produced a very nice collection of informative articles mixed with numerous wonderful full-color illustrations of cover art. The articles are written by knowledgeable people who are fans just as much as they are experts. They include Paul Bishop, Tom Simon, Andreas Decker, Steve Myall, Ian Milstead, and of course, Justin Marriott. The articles provide thorough information on the sub-genre as a whole, and several in-depth looks at specific series, characters, authors, and artists. One piece even covers a top-10 list of western heroes of the comics. An excellent summation of the Adult Western market for both the casually interested and the true fanatic. Sign me up for the next issue of Hot Lead!

Phenomenal Overview of the Adult Western
For several years Justin Marriott has been publishing various semi-professional magazines celebrating genre paperbacks from the 1960s and 1970s. He started with the Paperback Fanatic and has branched off with specialty horror, western and men's adventure (The Executioner, etc.). These magazines are full of interesting articles and profiles of writers as well and concise and respectful reviews. Marriott recognizes these books are not classics, but they hold their own with other genre titles. Marriott's magazines are also very useful for paperback book collectors; often this is the only bibliographic information available for many of these books. Even if you are not an Adult Western fan, these magazines are still fascinating. Well worth the investment of your time and money.

Delivers that shot to the gut!
As always, Justin Marriott and Paul Bishop's HOT LEAD delivers that shot to the gut of entertaining information about the world of western paperbacks. So many things we don't know these guys (as well as the other writers on the roster) root out and deliver. Who wrote what? Who painted what cover? Who came up with the series? The characters, the scenarios - all of it is an enlightening bit of gunplay that these guys do so well.If you are a fan of western paperback series - pick these issues up and prepare to have your eyes opened to the vistas of western action you never experienced before!

UNIQUE
You know why I like this magazine so much? I have NO interest in Western novels (for the most part, there are some exceptions), but I find reading about them in Hot Lead fascinating. It takes a special touch to make someone interested in a topic that normally he has zero interest. A good mixture of text and graphics. An an important bit of history of a genre that most people ignore. How good is the writing? They actually got me interested enough to start tracking down some of the books discussed!

Great value
I really enjoyed this issue. It was a great introduction into a sub genre of westerns that I wasn’t familiar. I bought my first Longarm book after reading this issue and it didn’t disappoint. Very happy I purchased this!

Hot Damn
I love this series. I have a few western books by a couple of the authors and this has introduced me to others. Even if you can't get the paperbacks, some of them are out there in e-book form. Add to this the background of authors/artists and their stories. Hopefully there are a lot more to come.

A wealth of knowledge.... even if you're not a Western Fan
I am not a major Western book fan but I do love classic (and sometimes not so classic) paperbacks so HOT LEAD, even though in theory is not quite up my alley, is still a major Must Read for me any time it comes out. This edition features some of the more salacious Adult Western series.

Themenausgabe: Adult Western
