Another good novel by Eric Jerome Dickey
LIARS GAME by Eric Jerome DickeyJune 18, 2005Rating 4/5 starsThis is the story of Dana and Vincent, two people who meet and fall in love, but because of lies that both make at some point in their relationship, things go wrong later on. Vince lies when Dana asks him whether he's been married or has kids. And Dana omits her past history as well, not telling Vince why she moved to Los Angeles in the first place. The novel goes back and forth in time, changing voices in each chapter, either telling the story from Dana's point of view or Vince's. This is a regular method that Dickey uses in his novels, and I like the way this helps the reader see all points of views in regards to the very same events. It all comes together at the end.Besides the "simple" love story between the two, there are also the stories that go with them: Vince's friend Womack, whom he has known all of his life and Womack's relationship with his woman Rosa Lee. There is Malaika, Vince's ex-wife, who was supposed to be living overseas, but Vince does not know that she and her new husband are now living in San Bernardino with the child Vince is not allowed to see. And there is Claudio, Dana's ex boyfriend, who is still so hung up on Dana that he hunts her down until he finds her. He represents a bad part of Dana's past that she wants to forget. Coming to Los Angeles, she re-created herself and purposely omitted to tell Vince about this part of her life, because she wanted to forget it all. However, lies of omission are still lies, and their relationship hits rocky ground when they both find out about each other's true past lives. As usual, this novel by Eric Jerome Dickey is a fast read, and the various characters that he creates are enough to satisfy me. I sometimes see his books as African American soap operas, but of course they are so much better than your average soap opera on TV. I can't count how many of his book I've read so far, but I'm always ready to read his next book.

A lie is a lie... No sugar-coating required
Such a wonderful read... Yet so wicked! Yes I laughed , cried and rooted for the victims, underdogs, and bullies alike. My problem is that ending... come on now. I want more!!!! RIP Mr. Eric Jerome Dickey.

An excellent read
This is a book I bought you've l twice because I loved it so much. Reading this book, along with other books along with other books from this author, puts you in a trance. Seeing things grim both perspectives helps the reader understand the opposite sex even better. This is an excellent read and this is hands down my favorite author.

Drama! Drama! Drama! Drama!
Once again he's proven that he got SKILLS! I didn't expect to be disappointed with this one - and I wasn't at all!Eric's way of developing characters and relationships is superb. I often wonder if he knows his characters personally - in his friends that is.I really liked Gerri a whole lot. I think that sista handled her business. Now Dana had some serious issues and was FULL OF DRAMA. Dang I wish I could hook Vince up with a friend of mine. Now Vince's baby's momma needed a behind whooping! LOLThis one would make a good movie. I would love to see who plays the landlords - hehehehe! The lesson in this one - well if I told you I would give the story away sooooo JUST GET THE BOOK!Eric - I am waiting on the next one!

Realistic characters make it even more lovable
I'm a long-time fan of Dickey's works, but this one is definitely on my Top 5 list of favorites. The characters portrayed in the novel are very human and very real as opposed to other romantic novels that portray people in all-too perfect lights. Switching back and forth between the viewpoints of both Dana and Vince helps give the reader a more in-depth look at what each person is thinking and feeling. Very detailed love (and action) scenes help make the plot come alive and I've read it several times since I bought it. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Web of lies
There was so much truth, cause and effect. Dana is not my favorite EJD female lead, but I could understand her POV sometimes. Great read! Can’t wait to read it again.

I read this book during Christmas and could not put it down. My partner thought I was too much into the book and I gave him to read it after I was done and now, he can't seem to put it down. Will highly recommend.

Nice read
Good book, had me laughing out loud, then cursing at parts. Thought the end was a bit lame, it finished quite abruptly. Enjoyed Dana and Vince's personal journeys, good messages

Liar's Game... everything!
Read this before but I didn't take the time to appreciate the loyalty of his relationship to the characters. Loved it!

A good read, but not Dickeys best
Not a bad read, if you area fan of Dickey it follows his writing style however I did feel it lacked a bit of substance. The ending was too abrupt with too many unanswered questions. There were a few good moments and would recommend to read.
