Wonderfully evocative read.
I have been avoiding this book for some time, although I have enjoyed nearly everything else that Radclyffe has written. The subject matter just hit a little too close to home. I have now, put some distance between myself and the demons of my past and felt it was time to brave this rather telling tale. The story delves into a topic that was once quite taboo but now has become more mainstream, at least in some circles.I found myself reliving some old and well anchored emotions as I read Shadowland. Some of the story was predictable as might be expected, but certain aspects were quite surprisingly fresh, and even enchanting. I found Dane's character to be one that evoked the most reaction from my own experiences, and so it was easy for me to relate to her. Kyle was harder, but I did eventually warm to her, at least until the end, when the stress and isolation of being separated from Dane finally caught up with her.Brad was too terrifying for me to talk about for many reasons. Nancy, well, can I go as far as too annoying?I did enjoy Caroline's seemingly motherly attitude towards Dane, especially the way she seemed to rescue her from herself when Dane's demons got the best of her. On the whole the book was extremely well written, and is very open about the whole BDSM scene in the lesbian community. Much of it is spot on, and Radclyffe must have either done a fair amount of research, or, well we can leave that alone. In the end, I have to say that the book was fantastic, and now one of my favorites by this author. I almost hate to have finished it, but I know that at some time in the future I will be revisiting this story.

Intriguing, to say the least
Meet Dane and Kyle. Two people searching for the same thing, but on different levels in the playing field. Follow them through the darkest places of their lives, and watch just how well they learn one another along the way. You won't be disappointed in the least.Deeply moving, yet engaging at every turn. This story is one that is not for the timid. The story is mind-blowing, the characters are very well put together. Radclyffe has always done a great job at writing material with the utmost care. I couldn't put it down.

Unexpectedly enjoyed this!
I'm a big fan of lesbian fiction, and Radclyffe is my favorite author by far. I've read nearly all of her books and kept pushing this one down my list since I wasn't so sure I would enjoy the BDSM stuff. I've always felt such a connection to her characters, and I mistakenly believed some of the heavier BDSM scenes would ruin this book for me. Yes, some were a little outside of my comfort zone and there are a few parts that are a little disturbing for someone new to this, but wow...I was also surprised to learn that just because it might not be for me personally, looking in on some of these scenes through the eyes of Kyle and Dane was really erotic and opened my mind to some new things. I'm so glad I took the chance on this title, and I enjoyed this book so much more than I expected to. The characters and the storyline have really been stuck in my head since I finished the book a couple weeks ago. I hope Rad writes a few more books like this - I definitely wouldn't hesitate to read them next time.

Bravo! Perfect Cherry-popper...for Me
This was my very first Raclyffe book, and I LOVED it. I can't believe I have JUST discovered her, and between this book and the two LL Raand stories I recently read, she has earned a new fan for life. The subject matter of Shadowland may be a little too dark or heavy at times for some, but not this reader. This book is SUPER-hottt with its breath-stealing scenes but not for the faint of heart. Considering the heavy BDSM action in this novel, it was shockingly erotic, pleasantly tender and the passionate love was extremely beautiful in its own unique way. I loved the ambiguity of the characters roles the best. I appreciated that Kyle and Dane were not clearly and rigidly defined in those roles. Their fluidity was my favorite part of this story. I haven't investigated many of her other stories, but of the synopses I have read so far, this seems to be the only along the SM-D/s lines. I sincerely hope not. I look forward to experiencing more for from this top-shelf author, and if this is currently her only offering in the sub-genre, I hope the she gives us another superb option soon. (This book was written several years ago). On to the next one...Happy Reading!!

Terrific story on a sensitive topic. Well done.
Great story. More are needed on BDSM. It is a very misunderstood practice.Rad creates a story that explores the real side of this approach to sexuality.Unfortunately BDSM lives under the shroud of critics who really don't knowit well nor understand it. Sort of like those drug scare mongers who thoughtmarijuana was evil. Go figure.

raw, power play, pain and pleasure
if I had read the book without a cover, I would not have guessed that Radclyffe had written this one. it is very different than the others. she travels into the world of S&M/BDSM... deep into the role play and the power exchange between two women. it was at times dark... and at others very hopeful. there is love in its midst but the rawness of the storyline will shock at times. always a fan of Radclyffe regardless, I still recommend this book... yet prepare yourself ...this is not the regular romance lane you tend to brace yourself to journey

Good but not her best.
Ive read all Radclyffes books and love everyone of them, she is such a great talented Author. This was one that i forgot about for some reason, and eventually when i read it, i was a little disappointed with it, i didnt like the story line overall but it took me to fully read it to decide this, but thats me. Love it, Love It
It is amazing that the author is able to introduce different type of lesbian romance without making it extremely good so you think is the best, but she has written it so that you can see what people see in the romance the bad and the ugly.. she is a star author.. 35 of her books in my kindle and still counting.

It's different in a good way
I am now half way through this and I have to say I am interested in the romance of this book. It can be a little slow at times but the pay-off is satisfactory. What I will have to say is that the book feels a little predictable, will be checking out more books from this author.
