A beautiful record. In regards to the previous reviewer, the 2x LP half-speed master wasn’t released until a few months later.

Most of the tracks here sound very familiar, being either remixes of earlier instrumental tracks or tracks that were already released on the "Instrumentals" boxed set.I'd probably give the set 4 or 5 stars if these were the first I'd heard of them, but anybody who half-follows Eno's career will find this a deja-vu experience.

Not gatefold or double disk

A must for all Eno fans. Contains remade/remodels of older Eno tunes, but in a new light,with some new material too. Overal another Eno gem. Japanese version gives better sound quality...

This is finally available on CD and for the masses. It was a limited edition in vinyl. A varied collection that works as ambient or intrinsic sound enjoyment.Recomended to those familiar with the genre.

Not as comprehensive an experience as some of Eno's other pieces which have a luminescent flow to them like the recent "Lux", but being disparate pieces which are sometimes over before they could have that glowing effect.

I think that people are a bit mistaken - this is not an ambient piece - this is more like Eno's electronic sketchbooks from that period. Elaborate, wonderful sketches; but not of a piece or theme. Mr. Eno creates all the time; some pieces evolve into something larger; some are simply little finished pieces, some are sketches for otherpieces. If he were more pretentious, he'd call them bagatelles.Well, those little finished pieces and sketches have to go somewhere - "Music for Films" is good enough name for these portfolios.Most of the pieces are short, a couple VERY short - under a minute. And there is one that is so funny, so contrary, so odd you'll love it immediately. In tone and texture, you will hear traces of "Another Green World", "On Land" and "Apollo".The liner notes by Michael Bracewell are poor - bloviation about Eno's career, misidentification of the CD in entirety as "ambient". But worst of all, aside from Eno and Daniel Lanois, no other musicians are credited. I'm calling Robert Fripp on lead guitar on the first cut, Percy Jones on bass on several of the first cuts (because a number of these cuts sound like outtakes from the "Another Green World"), possibly Phil Collins on drums. And a lot of these cuts ARE pure Eno. But, credit where credit is due, man.I really like these "Music for Films" CDs because they are amalgamations of finished pieces; sonically they are all over the map - but it's still Eno thinking in music. If these are indeed his sketchbooks, they are much better than most finished albums.

Another Green Worldish in places -superb

Mit Fortsetzungen und zweiten Teilen ist das immer so eine Sache, an das legendäre Originalalbum kommt diese Cd natürlich nicht heran. Aber die Songs hier haben auch ihren eigenen Reize und Qualitäten. Auf den 21 Tracks wirken u.a. sein Bruder Roger Enound Daniel Lanois, also ein vielseitiges bewährtes Team, mit. "Chemin de Fer" erinnert z..B. auch an Aufnahmen, die er mit Robert Fripp für die "Essential Fripp und Eno" CD beigesteuert hat.( "Healthy Colours I-IV").Manche andere Tracks kommen in alternative Variationen mit neuen Titeln "Fuseli" war mal "Patrolling Wire Borders",wenn ich mich nicht irre. Manche Songs wirken noch wie unfertige Fragmente oder Entwürfe, aber auch das hat für den Sammler und Fan seinen Reiz.Für Einsteiger und Nichtsammler ist das Original Album auf jeden Fall die erste Wahl.

If you like Another Green World period of Eno get this for your collection. A solid hour of the best ambient music ever made.
