Found solution for my dogs not using it; now it’s great!
Good buy! Tiny pooches were used to going outside, but winter presents problems: too little to get thru snow, tiny feet freeze to easy, fall down steps in ice & can’t get back to door, etc. Got this because had the removable tray for easier cleaning! Pooches held it in hoping to go outside but finally peed next to it tho. Cleaned that up & laid a pee soaked paper towel on grass matt to give them a hint. Con’t to potty next to it for 2 wks. I was prepared tho! Put a thin 5’x6’ rubber mat down under & around the potty tray from very beginning so no worries!Since they weren’t figuring it out tho; I needed to put a doggie playpen around it & keep them in playpen til they got this figured out before they start going pee in other places. They were confused by not going outside anymore & were acting scared. Put their bed in playpen w/ water/food & thought they’d get the idea now. Wrong! Still going right next to it. Then yesterday I got the bright idea to make the playpen much smaller so only about 16” space between their bed, food, water on one end & the potty on other end of playpen. Worked instantly! They didn’t want to go in the 16” right next to their bed & food & went “ON” the potty & got praised & there ya go! Gonna keep this confined set up about a week longer tho to make sure they keep up the good work & get lots more praises before taking the playpen down & trusting that they “understand” this is their new potty spot every time. They’ll do fine. They just didn’t understand the change in their routine from their previous potty training to go outside & not in house. They were acting like they’d done something wrong & were only going next to their new potty tray when I was out of the room & wouldn’t see them. They thought they were doing a no-no! Now that they have it figured out & getting praises, they’re back to happy again!A lot of reviewers said their dogs wouldn’t use this potty set up; so if you are considering getting one, keep in mind that you may need to help your dog “understand” what’s going on & be patient & do things to help them & not scold them. And put plastic sheet or something on the floor under & at least a couple feet around the new potty til your dog perfects the new change so you are less frustrated too! Maybe you won’t need to do these things, but if your dog is confused, these things will help get him over the learning curve & make ypur new doggy potty routine a successful one. I think this would have helped those other reviewers. As far smell; yes it does! But if you roll the mat up & slip it into a bucket (I have one just for cleaning the mat & for emptying the tray into for dumping also) & fill bucket 1/2 full of water w/ a capful of “concentrated” lysol (little brown bottle for about $4) & leave it a few min’s before flipping the rolled mat so other end can soak in water for few more min’s; then pour water from bucket into toilet while holding rolled matt still on bucket. Then start rinsing mat same way by filling bucket 1/2 full of clean water & flipping both ends of rolled mat in clean water, pouring water into toilet & repeat once more if you think it needs rinsed again. No mess, just a disinfected wet bucket to let air dry, & disinfected wet mat to put on patio or someplace to dry before putting back on potty tray. It helps to have 2 grass mats so one can be cleaned/dried while other is on potty tray. My local pet store has the grass pad fabric that can be cut to size of your tray & it’s inexpensive. Amazon has replacement grass mats too, & I’ve heard of some people using a piece of outdoor carpet (but I wouldn’t want to teach my dog to pee on carpet in case he didn’t know the difference between his potty carpet & my floor carpet- so good to be careful what you teach your dog). Hope this helps someone & their pooch! I’m loving the new potty for my little duo & know they’ll have a better winter w/o having to go outside,

Convenience
We just sold our home and bought a condo. As we have 3 tiny dogs that were used to being able to go in the back yard all day, I needed a solution to having to take them back and forth down the elevator just to potty. We put 2 of these side by side on our balcony, and even our little male who would never use a puppy pad at the house, took to it immediately. After the first time of cleaning out the tray, we realized that we needed a better solution though, hence the 4 star. We remedied that by simply putting a puppy pad under the turf to absorb the urine rather than letting it sit in the tray for a week. We have a decorative outdoor trash where we put their stools, and it's a very simple clean up, as I kept a small garden shovel to pick them up off the turf. As we have 12 foot ceilings, we custom ordered a magnetic screen for the door, so we can leave it open for a breeze, and they can go back and forth at will all day to sun or go potty. Such a simple clean up to rinse the turf, change the puppy pad and trash can liner. It's a perfect solution for high rise, or apartment, living with small pets!

Ups and downs.
As a whole, my dog grew accustomed to it quickly, however, if you live in an apartment-aka without a water hose- it is a nightmare to clean.

Helped hone in on potty training and associating turf with grass outside
I like this because my Irish Terrier is having trouble with potty training since we live on the 3rd floor of a high-rise apt.... She began to prefer using this rather than the potty pads i put next to it. The only thing is that the grassy part starts to reek..... I would soak it in bleach water in the tub once a week to clean it but it still smelled and i ended up throwing it away. but i still put the potty pads on the base and i think my dog likes that because she knows the texture difference and that's where she's supposed to go.

Smaller than it looks but great for my deck
That big Lab in the cover photo makes you think this pad is big. But it’s small - even for my 15 pound dog. Wish they had a larger version. But it works great as a place for my dog Winnie to pee and poop on my deck. The grid of bumps keeps her feet dry since the pee is below. I keep a scoop handy and chuck the poop in the woods. And once a week I pour a watering can of soapy water over it and flush it with a hose. Happy with the results. No more stinking deck boards since a pad with no tray used to be my answer to letting her out before I’m dressed in the morning.

Potty Pad
This is perfect for my Siberian Huskey puppy. It positivly helped with Potty Training. The feel of the artificial grass help him to connect that you go potty outside. We started in the house and every couple of days we moved it closer to the door. Finally, we put it outside where he continued to use it and again started to move it to where we wanted to go. As he got bigger (he is four months old) he out grew the pad, but by then he was on natural grass as was going on the grass. To clean all I did was hose it down, spray some pet Stain and Odor (which there was not much of) Remover and put in place. If I had to give just one con, it would be that I wish the pad was larger. I highly recommend this product!

Great for apartment dogs
So we live in an apartment high up and have a senior dog that has trouble controlling her bladder. So we bought this so we could let her out several times without having to go up and down stairs hundreds of times. It took her awhile to get use to it but now she is getting the hang of it. The only thing is it is horrible to clean. We have to be on it and not let it get to full bc it will be impossible to take from the balcony to the bathroom to clean in the shower. It can also smell really bad if not cleaned a lot as well. Other than that it is great for senior dogs, apartment dogs, or puppies.

Great way for puppies/dogs to toilet train
Great way to ensure your puppy/dog ‘goes ‘ in one place. Easy to wash and quick to dry. Would not be without one.
