Lots of useful information besides as well
Contains just about every excerpt you could ever need. Lots of useful information besides as well. My issue is that the layout is generally quite bad. Information is sporadically placed throughout the book with little thought given to organization. In many cases little useful nuggets are sandwiched between several pages of excerpts on either side, with no indication in the indexes as to its presence. The music is also organized according to range, dynamics, articulation, etc. I find this quite annoying and would much rather have an alphabetical arrangement (as in Baxtresser and Kujala's similar books for flute). Perhaps I miss the point of the organization, but I'll continue to use it regardless.

A MUST HAVE!!
Great book for the aspiring orchestral piccolist and for those needing to prepare for auditions. The excerpts are a wide range of difficulty and are grouped into chapters based on techniques to focus on. Highly recommend!!

This book is probably very good for it's intended audience - professional orchestral flautists who want to become professional orchestral piccolo players. The content is almost exclusively passages from well known (and mostly very hard) orchestral pieces. There are a very small number of simpler exercises, together with block of text on a wide range of technical issues. Unfortunately, these bits of text almost always refer to exercises in one or more of the six volumes of the same author's Practice Book for the Flute before suggesting trying one of more of the passages in this book.In summary, to get any real benefit from this book you will need to be well beyond Grade 8 standard on the Flute and to own all 6 volumes of the Practice Book for the Flute. It may well be very good for someone in that position. I can't really comment. As a casual flautist looking for something to help me dabble on a cheap piccolo, (I mainly play saxophone, and my flute playing is probably only just up to Grade 8 standard) who does not own any of the other six books I am afraid I found this about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Wonderful!
Essential if you’re learning piccolo, or even if you are a seasoned player! I’ve only played piccolo for about 6 months and the tone is 10 times better than before. I’ve only covered the first few pages and noticed a drastic improvement!I’ve played flute since a very young age and used the Trevor Wye books from the beginning.

piccolo
I started with the flute, and have now received a piccolo and wanted to know about playing it more. It is a good book for people wanting to know more about playing a piccolo, with tips on how to play.
