This book was recommended by German Instructor. It is easy to follow and comes with audio.

I like the summary of grammar at the end of each chapter. And nice intro to new vocabulary with easy ways to remember the gender of things.

Hi. This book is awesome. The CD that comes with it is very thorough and interactive. Definitely worth every penny.

This book is not suitable for self-study, use it with a teacher (e.g. at the Goethe Institut or with a private teacher). This book gives you a solid basis and covers all the necessary vocab and grammar you need for this level. It follows a communicational approach and offers (together with the Arbeitsbuch, the grammar book, and material on the Hueber website) very good exercises, listening examples, and language learning games.

This book was required for my college course. It’s pretty self explanatory but the directions are all in German. Would maybe suggest buying a German dictionary to accompany the book if you’re learning outside of an instructor lead environment

Worst language book ever. Lacks order and method, they just jump all over the place introducing new words and grammar with no explanation. Extremely frustrating.

This review is to respond to other negative reviews.This book and its companion Arbeitsbuch were never intended for self-study. They are part of an immersion course, taught by a native speaker. I agree, if I were studying on my own, these are not what you want. However, I'm taking a very, very basic, beginner's course at Goethe Institute in San Francisco and these are the course books. I find them to be helpful and complementary to the classroom learning.I think probably, the description could be more helpful. So, don't buy them if you want self study. Buy them if you have a course that uses them.

This is one of the worst textbooks I've ever used. As a beginning German learner, this book -- and its equally confusing companion, the Arbeitsbuch -- will leave you feeling frustrated and defeated. The authors are obviously native German speakers, and they write these books for other native German speakers. I think this book was put together for bureaucratic reasons (as a grading tool for proficiency exams) and not to teach foreigners.What you get in Menschen is a series of cryptic riddles and puzzles, written in German with no context or explanation. "Ergänzen Sie!" it commands at the beginning of many baffling exercises. And get ready to spend 30 minutes with Google Translate and dozens of About.com web pages trying to figure out what they're asking you to do.Unfortunately, this is the textbook of choice at Goethe Institut and many other German schools. Be prepared to buy supplementary textbooks written in English if you ever want to grasp the basics, like the complex German cases and grammar rules that you won't learn from this "Rätsel" of a book.

O livro é ótimo, veio todo certinho. Só não tiveram muito cuidado com a embalagem, amassou um pouco o livro mas nada grave que pudesse atrapalhar o uso.
