SALVS Automatic/Manual Inflatable Life Jacket for Adults | PFD for Kayak, Fishing, Sailing | Life Vest for Men & Women | Floatation Swim Vest

I purchased a set of 4 of the Salvs auto-inflation PFDs for personal/recreational use. I am employed as a law enforcement underwater recovery diver and we use Mustang HID PFDs while underway in our vessels (retails for around 219.00 on Amazon). In the construction alone, the Mustang is in a much higher class than the Salvs and the hydrostatic inflator of the Mustang insures auto-inflation based upon water pressure to avoid premature/unwanted inflation. However, considering the price-point, it is not accurate to compare the two products. Salvs PFD offers exceptional value of an auto-inflation PFD with many of the same features of the Mustang at an affordable price. I like the comfort and convenience of this type of PFD; especially in the heat of summer. You stay cooler and range of motion is not inhibited compared to conventional PFDs. This PFD is rated at 25 lbs. of lift when properly inflated and worn; more than enough for any adult. When inflated, the bladder is secured by nylon web belt around the front torso and around the back of the neck to ensure a face-up orientation to keep your mouth and nose out of the water in case of loss of consciousness. No, it is not a Mustang, but it is just as safe when you need it and is more than 1/3rd the price.

This little vest allows me to operate my boat safely and in relative comfort without the heat and bulk of a regular life vest. It packs a lot of features at a great price: manual inflation, auto inflation, and stem to blow it up if needed, a whistle, reflectors, and a light. I purchased two and am very pleased. The vest is attractive and comes with a waterproof storage bag. I'll probably use a larger gear bag to store them and use the smaller bag it came in for my wallet, car keys and whatnot. At first I had trouble blowing them up to test them, but the second time they were much easier to inflate. The company was quick to respond when I asked for help and offered to send a return mailing label and ship replacements the very next day. As it turned out, mine are fine, but the service was great!

Unit was extremely hard to inflate. Deflating the unit required a pen or similar small device to deflate as the end cap did not disengage the valve fully. Construction seems sound and the unit held air for 16 hours. I'll withhold final judgement until I test the co2 inflation. I would suggest to manufacturers that 2 co2 cartridges be supplied with these PFDs so users can test them and experience the inflation cycle.

Good price, nice product. Fast shipping. A must have when on your boat. One size fits all. (Up to 4x) easy adjustments. Will probably order one more.Update: I used this since the day I received it. I wear it all the time. Very light and comfortable. I just received my second vest from SALVS. A great addition to my boat.

Very comfortable, forgot that I even had it on until I was driving back to the cabin after a day out on the water. Adjustable so that it will fit over a tee shirt in the Summer, or a jacket in the Spring/Fall. I store them in a giant ziplock and store in the helm cubby; they will deploy if left out in the rain where water can pool and dissolve the bobbin tablet.

Customer service is staggeringly fast and helpful. The best is comfortable but it’s my first in this style so I don’t know if it could be better, or if this is as good as they get.I have used it one time so far, and didn’t require it to perform for its intended purpose, but on the plus side it didn’t inflate on its own and choke the life out of me. I’ll call it a win.One tiny insignificant gripe. Rearming kits, they kindly give you one when you fill out a little information on their site, a $20 value. That’s great, I figured to be on the safe side I’ll buy one as well because it’s primary use is on a sunfish and I’ve already been over once. Well I bought it and rather than tack on the freebie to my order i ended up having to pay for shipping on it which is $10.If I have problems with it in the near future I’ll update this to reflect those problems.

One thing is sure - SALVS customer service is one of the best out there, which for me means a lot.Of course - to make the experience whole, you gotta have a good product in hand, and for all I've seen, this life jacket is awesome.I tested it and it worked as expected, fits great (I'm 6 foot, slim, but it looks like it can accommodate either larger or smaller shaped users) and it feels and looks like it is made from high level materials. The only down side as I see it is the price of the CO2 canisters (cost about 1/3 of the price of the product), but SALVS are kind enough to provide you with a canister that comes with your purchase and another FREE canister when you register your product online, which means that for this type of life jacket, this is where you'll get the most for your buck.

I like the small size. It is compact and doesn't rub against the back of the kayak seat. Most of my kayaking is in quiet waters. I have a standard life vest ( not inflatable), but it is bulky against the kayak seat back. I bought this vest for it's size and lack of bulk, which I am very pleased with. It is more comfortable than wearing a large life vest. I fully expect both the automatic Co2 inflate and the manual CO2 inflate to meet my needs. My only concern is that the last fail-safe ( blowing up the vest using the tube ) is very difficult. I tried it out before wearing it, as recommended as part of verifying the vest is leak-proof. It was very hard to blow air into. I'm not sure I could do it if I was struggling in the water. I'm glad I tested that out and am aware of the effort it will take.
