Good quality refurbished phone
My old A40 broke, needed a new one ASAP. Though it said 'good condition' in description, the phone came in *pristine* condition! No scratches or marks at all so very happy about that. Received just 3 days after ordering. Very good value at ยฃ55!

Excellent Phone at a Very Good Price
I give this product 5 stars however, I would like to give two comments which just shave the five stars. The set up should have been straightforward. There is a computerised voice to tutor one in the installation. However, when I tried to enter text (e.g. the Wi-Fi password) the keyboard popped up but I could not enter any text. After much frustration I realised that to enter text I has to press a key three times (one long and two short). Near the end of the setup one screen seemed to freeze as I could not get it to move. Again after must frustration I realised that to move the screen needed a two finger action (in a manner of speaking). My other gripe is the ringtones or rather lack of them. Within Settings the ringtone can be changed. However, the only ringtone available was the one already installed. Do these phones leave the factory with a random ringtone or are they all the same?Having got these points out of the way, this is an excellent phone. The battery lasts me about two days. Charging from empty takes about one and a half hours. This is the default setting of fast charge and according to Google does not reduce the batteryโs life. All actions on the phone are fast e.g. searching the internet and opening videos. The storage capacity of 64GB appears to be adequate Bear in mind that about a quarter of this is occupied by the operating system. However, I would suggest that use of an SD card is essential. I live in a poor phone reception area and my last phone was near unusable to make calls. This one gives excellent reception. Before buying this phone I researched professional sites for reviews. The considered opinion was that the phone was adequate. I beg to differ. I have never used an expensive phone but fail to see what one could do better than the A40. I believe that the price is astonishingly good. Why pay more?Yes, as people have said the phone was originally for the European market. However, this is stated on the box and the only โforeignโ bit was the basic set up instructions which were in Slovak (I think). Do not let this put you off.

Good phone overall, good size, will buy again, camera is the only thing I am not impressed with!
I bought this phone as it was cheap and it was the only A series phone with a super amoled display and of a decent size so that I can hold it in one hand. I would have paid more if they had a better specs in a smaller phone but it seems these days no one wants to use normal sized phones anymore.I have had a chance to use this phone for 3 months now and I am very happy with it. It has a good battery life (around 50% left by the end of the day), screen as its Samsung amoled it's very good. The fingerprint recognition is good, all other phone functions I.e. call volume, clarity are good too and no issues with that.I had a slight issue with the proximity sensor for a while which seems to have been off all along. I had to watch a you tube video to learn how to turn it on - a little strange that it was off?The reason i have given it 4 stars and not 5 is because of the camera (the only gripe I have about this phone). I am not talking about the front facing camera (I barely use that) but the normal rear facing one. I am slightly dissapointed with the HDR features and the indoor photo quality. The camera seems to over process images, often leading to a strange margins around the subjects in low light settings (which living in the UK it's all the time). Indoor photos also come out very blurry using standard mode (not tweaking the professional functions). Colour reproduction is also below par and no idea why the wide angle lens ruins the image quality so much to the point that it's not even worth having to be honest. Then again it's a ยฃ190 phone and offers everything else you need so I am happy with the compromise and would still buy again. I would have paid ยฃ50 more for a better camera. I came from samsung s6, its camera was brilliant for such an old phone now.

Superb travelling phone beyond the EU
Bought this phone for a trip to South Africa. Any UK networks are horrendously expensive for anything so plan was to use primary sim for receiving those one time passcodes and other notifications then get a local pay as you go sim for data and calls. In my case a vodacom. You need a South African friend to use their address but once that's done all is good.Swapping from an edge s7 was very easy including moving WhatsApp data via the backup. Something you cannot do with iPhone moving to non iPhone kit. Another nail in apple's coffin.Primary use was data and my partner tethered her phone to this. We had WhatsApp messaging and calls. Emails. Maps. Waze for live traffic navigation. Facebook and messenger too. Of course we also had WiFi in a large number of places so this phone allowed us to stay connected with our UK identities.Screenshot attached shows the two sim identities in use. Very easy to monitor data usage too by one or other sim.We switched off voicemail and diverted all calls to stop incoming call charges too.Very easy to swap between sim for data, calls or texts with both sim receive regardless. The wide angle camera was quite useful especially sharing vistas with those back home and posting on Facebook. It's not a water resistant phone one of the few disadvantages. It is USB c charging so got a dedicated in car charger.Overall very impressed. With my travel i can't see myself going back to a single sim phone.

A40 - Very poor at being a....phone!
The trouble with most tech 'Reviews' is the geeks sit down with a coffee and look at the specs, whip themselves into a tech feeding frenzy, and think 'whaw....great specs'...or not. Then a 'real life' consumer gets hold of the phone and thinks...Jeeeees, this is cr*p....! I am one of those for the A40. The Forums are crammed with other 'real people' who are having similar problems.Issues with Bluetooth - can't sync Bose speakers, can't sync Fitbit. Native Wi-Fi calling voice is dropping out with outgoing and incoming voice on BOTH sims. Speech quality on ear and main speaker is appalling, and lastly the phone network strength i.e. amplification of, is very poor too. This is comparing with a Sony XZ1 where ALL of the above is much, much better. So - after lots of fiddling I have at last decided the phone promises a lot on paper, but delivers little and is very POOR...as a phone. For reference, I have done my best at a bit of research. I have actually returned the first A40, and got a replacement - no difference (to my embarrassment) . I have run one sim only - no change. I have replaced a sim with a new one - no change. I have changed the wi-fi router - no difference. I have made a call with Whats App - no difference. Poor sound and voice drop-out. So I conclude after all that - it is a bad phone - do not buy!

Nice phone
I bought this to replace a Sony xperia ax1 dual sim phone that had been causing issues for some while - the sims wouldn't stay in, bluetooth problems and phone not able to update. This phone arrived a day earlier than anticipated and was easy to set up straight from the box. Although I couldn't use the easy transfer as this was only relevant to Samsung phones, all my apps and settings downloaded from Google drive. The phone is light and feels lovely to touch. The camera seems good with a lot of options yet to be tried. I now have wifi calling which had never been possible on my old Xperia. The sim card holders seem secure and there is a separate sd card slot for additional memory. I haven't noticed much difference with Android 10 but, unlike my other phone, this one has updated several times already. I purchased this UK version as a 'like new' open box so it was about ยฃ40 less than the unopened box version. So far I am very pleased with it and would recommend it.

Perfect for me.
Well, my iPhone packed up after three years so I ordered another which couldn't even communicate with my other Apple devices, despite an Apple supplier's engineer trying for an hour and a half to get it to work. So, I returned it and, as a friend of mine was happy with her Samsung which had lasted years, I bought this one.It does everything I need, and it does it well. I bought a rugged case for it which really beefs it up and gives you more confidence regarding its durability and I am delighted. One question puzzles me and to which I can find no rational answer: why on earth was I prepared to pay 500 quid more for an over-hyped Apple phone? Apple are on the way down as far as I am concerned. Premium prices for gear which is less and less user-friendly and where each software update worsens the situation. If you are not interested in juvenile parading of a brand product just to achieve kudos from friends, try a Samsung. I have seen sense at last.
