Mickey Baker's Complete Course in Jazz Guitar: Book 2

A not so good player, best book for chords
This is a great book, along with book 1. Upper partials for smooth movement between chords. He wasn't a great player. The greatest books.

A collection of more advanced ideas from Mickey
Mickey's Book 2 is a very different book from Book 1. The earlier book is a methodical study of chords, harmony, arpeggios, and constructing solos using these tools. The diligent student who finishes Mickey's first book (and spends enough time practicing the lessons) will have the basic tools needed to play jazz, but there's a lot more to learn from that point. That's where book 2 comes in. Written five years after the first book, it departs from the sequential form of Book 1 and presents a number of mostly stand alone lessons on a wide variety of topics, like the use of pedal point, altered chords and chord melody. There are a number of lessons on symmetric harmony, something at the core of the sound of Coltrane and a lot of other advanced boppers. It sounded hip then and it still sounds hip today. If you've finished Mickey's Book 1, or another good method, and you feel comfortable playing through the changes on standards, you're ready for Book 2.

Good Follow up to Volume One
Although the layout of the book is somewhat dated the information is up to date. Depending on your current skill level and knowledge of jazz theory this book may be challenging. If you are willing to put in the time and effort this book will open some musical doors.

Great book, for that time.
Althousgh some of the examples and harmony are a little bit old fashional, this books help me a lot in working without the bass and look oiver the freatbord without be afraid or lost in the upper register of the guitar. The arrangments are carefully prepared and at the same time are very musical. This is a great book, to look at the guitar in a different way with comping style in modern jazz( but not contemporany).

It worked for Ribben Ford

Good, but liked book 1 better
A bit different than Jazz Guitar Book 1. It focuses more on stretched out chord scales and symmetric patterns. I liked it, but if you're only going to choose one of Mickey Baker's jazz guitar books, choose book 1.

Just a charming interesting useful little book - like Book 1
Easier to get started with either of these two reasonably-priced Mickey Baker books than a lot of other jazz tutorials I've seen.

Worth Putting In The Effort
This is quite complex, but seems to follow on well from the first book I bought in the 60's. Perhaps not a guide to really get to grips with immediately, but working through it step by step looks like it will be a rewarding exercise.

Good publication-I have had Book 1 for many years. This is just as good.
Excellent book, mainly for the purist, not for a beginner. I would recommend this to all serious guitar players who are trying to improve.
