My overall impression is this: it's a great book
It's exactly what most 4 and 5 star reviews say it is. The only real issue I have that no other review (not even a 1, 2, or 3 star review) mentions is this. The book doesn't provide notes for conceptual pitfalls that can and will arise when reading it. A good example is the word "vector." There are actually 2 types of vectors mentioned: one from the linear algebra camp, the other from the vector calculus school of thought. These two types of vectors are actually quite different. A vector calculus vector almost always refers back to a 2 or 3 dimensional description of the motion or transmission of mass, energy, waves, and particles in a vertical/horizontal plane or in three-dimensional space; whereas a linear algebra vector more-often-than-not represents an arbitrary set of ordered numbers in a 1XN or NX1 matrix that is simply meaningless as a physical vector.

A classic
This is one of the few books I kept from undergraduate days and that old version is worn out and moldy now. I bought this book for my son who is an engineering student.

It is a text book
If you are deciding between the 9th and 10th, and have a choice, go with the 10th. There are just a few things changed, including the ordering, but having a different book than the professor can get confusing. The text book itself, well it is a textbook, and not Griffiths. But it will be a good reference book, has tons of information.

Good for expanding current knowledge
I think this book will be very helpful. This book assumes the reader has at least heard of differential equations and explored it a little. It's a good book to expand your current knowledge.

Disapointed
I'm visually impaired, but i can still read most text books without too much difficult. The font in this book if far too small in many areas. This is also the case in the 8th and 10th editions. From what i can see, litterally, the material is fairly good. The books coverage is extremely broad, which is good, the last 4 chapter on optimization, graph theory, probability, and statistics, are not detailed enough to be particularly usefull.

Excellent textbook
Always so thankful to find the right required textbook for classes at so much better prices! This one is a very good one for this tough subject--thanks so much and it will rain in my reference library for years to come!

I use this book every day for my graduate class.
I gave them a rating of 5 out of 5, since they had the integrity to provide what they promised. The book arrived as they advertised and the quality of the book was as they advertised.
