March 2017 will see the 100th anniversary of the birth of famous Romanian pianist Dinu Lipatti (March 19, 1917 – December 2, 1950). On this occasion we will release a 3CD budget box including his Concerto album with Herbert von Karajan, a CD of works by Chopin, Liszt, Ravel, Brahms and Enescu, and his Last Recital in Besançon, recorded only two and a half months before his tragic death in 1950. All three CDs are also in the Icon box dedicated to the pianist (5099920731823) but the Besançon Recital included here benefits from a 24-bit/96kHz remastering made for a Japanese SACD edition in 2011.

Superb performances maimed by horrible sound quality
A pity...these are legendary recordings by the great master Lipatti, but the sound quality of this specific collection is absolutely disappointing. I had separate CDs of the last recital (which here sounds the worst of the whole CD box) and the sound was not nearly as metallic and void of warmth as this one. I think that someone, in order to "clean up" the old recording sound, ended up cutting a lot of frequencies...too bad!

No SACD included
I purchased this in part because the line under the title said "3CD, SACD." There are no SACDs or hybrid CD-SACDs, only three standard CDs.As a set of three CDs, seems like a good introduction to Lipatti, who had such a deft touch.

A wonderful collection
I forget how I found out about Mr. Lipatti who unfortunately died young. This is a wonderful compilation. A light, skilled, and authoritative touch on the keyboard. This from a non-musician.

Excellent pianist. Sound quality variable - but not suprising as he died in 1950. Three CDs at this price tremendous value.

O death where is thy sting, O grave thy victory?
