Tier Heaven!
The book is well organized, and loaded with over 100 years of knowledge and experience. I especially enjoyed the metaphors and anecdotes! I bought both the hard and soft copy, since I'm still a little old school...

Great Reference for CNCs, PMs, DBAs, Perf. Testers, OS and Hardware admins for JDE systems!
Let me say first that while there is a ton of great material in this book for CNCs, there is also a very good amount of material that would benefit many other supporting roles as well – PMs, DBAs, OS admins, etc. Having read through this book I can say that I believe every customer, large and small, should own (and more importantly USE) a copy of this book! If you are looking for a general recommendation, no need to read on, just buy the book! If you want full details, read on!To give some of my background, I’m currently a CNC consultant supporting 25+ customers. I’ve been doing CNC since 2000 and spent 6 years supporting JDEdwards for a highly recognizable fortune 100 company that made over 60 billion dollars in revenue in 2012.So let’s talk about the book, which I think really fills a desperately needed gap of compiled information unavailable anywhere else either in training or written text! The beginning of the book covers the performance tuning and testing methodologies adopted by industry leaders. It discusses items such as benchmarks, business drivers, some high level overview regarding the different OS and DB platforms, hardware and network architecture, some performance tools, etc. This section would be great for someone trying to increase their understanding of the various technologies at a high level and gain a good amount of insight into testing and tuning methodologies adopted by industry leaders. Since the book was put together by resources who work for Oracle, as you can imagine, the methodology is sound and most companies that have grown to those heights have adopted similar standards in order to survive the growth. I myself have spent a good amount of time adhering to these same standards and can testify to their value. They say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and when a day of downtime or performance problems can easily cost more than a million dollars it becomes very easy to justify stringent testing procedures prior to production go-live.The book next begins to really peel back the individual layers of tuning beginning with high level tuning and then getting into the details of each “tier”. As a CNC, this is where I found the most value, and I’m constantly referring back to these chapters as I do implementations, upgrades, sanity checks, and any other performance troubleshooting and tuning. You will find details related to the OS and database for all platforms (AS400, OEL, Windows, Oracle, MSSQL), web servers (everything from JAS.INI and JDBJ.INI tuning to memory management and other settings related to WebLogic and Websphere), interfaces (BSSVs, etc.), load balancing and virtualization. Not only are there some general recommendations at each tier, but there are descriptions detailing cause and effect of various changes both within and outside of that tier. For example, at the DB tier for MSSQL, it discusses RCSI, what it does and the effects that enabling or disabling it has on the way the database handles record locks. Just this one bit of information has been worth the price of this book to me as it resolved some major record locking issues that a customer was having which resulted in third party applications affecting JDE.The last 2 chapters of the book discuss, “Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Exalogic Elastic Cloud,” which is self described and contains relevant detailed information, and “Load Balancing/Scalability Opportunities for EnterpriseOne,” which contains about 40-45 pages of information related to scaling your application at the various layers. If you are a CNC you’ll likely refer back to this information when you receive new requirements or do new implementations. As far as format, this book has enough diagrams in it that I think it would be difficult to read on a small format screen such as a phone or small kindle device. An iPad or other larger format device may be fine for the Kindle edition but lacking a larger screen I would opt for a hard copy of the book. As I haven’t read the Kindle edition I can’t review it directly. As a CNC of 13+ years I keep this book very close by so I can go back and reference it as needed. It’s given some extremely valuable insight that I wasn’t able to find anywhere else even after taking nearly 20 Oracle classes on various topics. There is a large amount of value that I’m able to provide my customers solely based on the information in this book.Buy this book and use it and the company that you are working for will quickly see the tangible benefits in increased performance.Highly Recommended!!!

Advanced Tuning Primer for management Team on JD Edwards Enterprise One Implementations
I believe this book will be a useful addition to the library of any Programme Manager or member of the leadership team as well as applications DBA's embarking on a JD Edwards Enterprise One implementation.I have spend the last 30 years managing Oracle E Business Suite implementations and have got used to the nuances of performance tuning. It's wonderful to have an easy to read book which clearly lays out the areas that need special attention in order to fine tune the systems performance. The book starts off with a high level view of those components. The book proceeds to dig into the details that cause concern for the system administrators. Across most System One implementations the fundamental building blocks are consistent, you must have certain servers and services in place to provide the core functionality. The next section describes the system administrators methodology playbook for tuning the system:Technical architectureTuning the Web TierTuning the Foundation TierTuning The Database TierTuning The Interface TierI can't claim to be an expert having read the book but I am certainly better prepared to sit with my new project team and ask open questions and gauge what needs to be done to fine tune the systems performance.

Already put to good use!
Received this book earlier this week and within 24 hours had already put it to good use. This book offers targeted recommendations combined with accurate and concise explanations. No need to hunt through pages and pages of things on MOS that may or may not address your needs, this book will address the WHAT, HOW and WHY to get you rolling. This book has clear images where appropriate as well as tips and considerations to ensure you understand the "whole picture."Many thanks to the team of authors that put this together, I would give it 10 stars if I could!

A required read for any JD Edwards CNC
Great book and a good tool to have when troubleshooting performance issues. It is very useful for a reference when performing an install or upgrade in addition to making your system perform at its peak.
