The Bach Recordings

This fantastic set is part of the best of great Hogwood Legacy. As the excellent conductor and harpsichordist he was, Hogwood left a capital body of work in which his Bach and Vivaldi recordings are surely the most remarkable. Have to mention the ability he had of surrounding himself by such outstanding musicians as John Holloway, Christophe Rousset, Catherine McIntosh, Simon Standage and think even Manze collaborated with him, among many others. This made his Academy of Ancient Music the best, possibly, Orchestra specialised in Baroque Music. Added to the high quality of Decca L'Oiseau Lyre recordings, his Bach Concerts shine (with Rousset "eblouissant", magic harpsichord), like big jewels in the Music Universe. This is why can not stop myself to recommend this fairly priced set. Such stellar musicians would have not appeared now and again with Hogwood if he were not the brilliant Conductor and musicologist he was. The elegance, balance and refinement of this records is present all along his Bach. Real Masterworks, get them and you will be as proud as am to have them. The only thing I miss is the Italian Concert: but does not matter, get this by Van Asperen, its Virgin recording is also very good and Van Asperen does it wonderfully too, at harpsichord. As pianists friend of mine say, Christopher Hogwood and his teams are just perfect in his sophisticated style. May he equally be honoured wherever he may be.

ホグウッドのモーツァルトが好きだったのでバッハも買ってみた。チェンバロを使って指揮するので他の演奏家のもと比べて一味違う。

Coffret de 20 cd très complet pour celui qui aime bach!je connaissais hogwood surtout pour ses vivaldi, là c'est d'une qualité équivalente, c'est-à-dire excellente!14 cd sont consacrés à js bach: brandebourgeois, suites orchestrales, concertos pour clavecin, suites françaises, extraits de l'offrande musicale, quelques cantates profanes, concertos pour violon.6 cd (quand même) sont consacrés aux fils bach.Hogwood était à l'oiseau lyre ce qu'était karl richter ou pinnock pour archiv produktion. C'est impeccable au niveau des interprétations, c'est assez proche du style pinnock sur instruments anciens, et c'est impeccablement enregistré.Il sagit d'une réédition italienne qu'on trouve bien moins chère sur le site italien d'Amazon. A compléter par le coffret karl richter revealing bach d archiv, qui propose une vision plus années 70, très différente, mais tout aussi belle, et sinon par l'immense pinnock.

Without a doubt this is an excellent box set. The price may put you off but think again because actually you get so much for your money that it is a wise purchase.There are 20 discs for a start. That means that there are 20 albums. You may have some of the discs already but if you think that each disc cost around £10 at a time (actually maybe more than that) it is worth doubling up on a few recordings to get the others.The box contains all of the Bach recordings made by Christopher Hogwoood and the Academy of Ancient Music for the L'Oiseau Lyre label on Decca. The whole set is compact and takes up little room on a storage shelf. The spine measures just two and a quarter inches thick. The box is a clam shell box,Each album is contained in a card sleeve. And the front of each sleeve has the same picture as the outer box. The back of each sleeve has the information about the album content. The box also contains an informative booklet.The recordings are on period instruments and the sound is excellent. Cristopher Hogwood é stato un personaggio straordinario: fine clavicembalista, grande musicologo e strenuo ricercatore, approdato con grande successo al podio dopo aver ri-formato una piccola orchestra, The Academy of Ancient Music. Hogwood ha animato la scena internazionale della musica barocca degli anni '80'e '90 adottando fin da subito strumenti originali o copie conformi, e ricercando non solo gli spartiti originali dei brani da eseguire, ma anche testimonianze scritte di ascoltatori dell'epoca per confermare per esempio quanti primi e secondi violini mettere in orchestra, se adottare il clavicembalo come basso continuo anche nell'esecuzione di brani sinfonici, e così via.Il suo modo di fare musica fece molto scalpore fin da subito e generó accesi sostenitori ed acerrimi detrattori: é infatti un modo di eseguire la musica barocca molto diverso dalla severa austerità austro-tedesca di Harnoncourt o dal rigore olandese di Leonhardt, Hogwood infatti introduce per primo, pur nel rigore della prassi esecutiva filologica, una vena di estrosità quasi italiana, una contabilità degli archi molto "mediterranea", insomma un modo che rende "vivo" e spumeggiante il risultato di una pedante ricerca filologica.Questo bel cofanetto, di ben 20 CD, raccoglie tutte le incisioni fatte da Hogwood per la grande maggioranza con la sua orchestra di elezione, la Academy of Ancient Music (AAM), incisioni dicevo della musica di Bach e Famiglia....I contenuti di ciascun CD sono riportati più sopra nell'elenco descrittivo, ma a me piace ricordare che in questa raccolta si trovano delle vere e proprie "perle". Ad iniziare dai 6 Concerti Brandemburghesi, che per vivacità combinata a rigore esecutivo, si pongono fra le più belle realizzazioni disponibili su disco. E i concerti per Clavicembalo e orchestra, con lo straordinario Rousset alla tastiera, sono da sempre i più belli e i più ascoltati della mia collezione che comprende almeno 20 incisioni diverse di questi concerti....e potrei continuare così per ciascuno dei CD contenuti nella raccolta. Fra l'altro ascoltare la musica dei figli di Bach, eseguita a questi livelli, diventa illuminante sul perché il giovane Mozart ne venne affascinato ed influenzato al punto da trascrivere i suoi primi 4 concerti per piano e orchestra da lavori di un Bach figlio....E la qualità di incisione? Quasi sempre in digitale nativo, DDD, con riprese microfoniche degne delle migliori registrazioni, e con una resa sonora fedele al suono assai peculiare della piccola orchestra inglese. D'altra parte l'Oiseau Lyre era etichetta acquistata della Decca, e la mitica casa inglese aveva trasfuso qui tutte le sue eccezionali conoscenze tecniche.I risultati finali di qualità sonora sono davvero ragguardevoli, tanto che molte di queste incisioni sono usate per dimostrare impianti Hi-Fi di alto livello! Le copertine non sono quelle originali ma....peccatuccio veniale che a questo prezzo convenientissimo...si perdona facilmente!Bello il cofanetto di cartoncino, robusto e comodo da usare spesso.Buona ascolto a tutte e tutti voi.....
