Product description Grammy-nominee Diana Krall interprets songs about love, including All or Nothing at All .com Like a mink draped over mahogany, Diana Krall's luxuriously supple alto adorns the vintage songs of romance and longing found on Love Scenes with a palpable aura of glamour and late-night cool. Her ostensibly effortless command of phrasing and intonation, whether the mood is seduction or a sweet sassiness, further fortifies the opinion that the Canadian vocalist-pianist possesses one of the great female jazz voices to surface in the late 1990s. Augmented by spare but skillful instrumentation from bassist Christian McBride and guitarist Russell Malone, Krall sustains a largely quiet (though hardly sleepy) ambience throughout the CD's 12 selections, from Irving Berlin's "How Deep Is the Ocean (How High Is the Sky)," which she also uses as a showcase for her touch at the keyboard, to Gershwin's "They Can't Take That Away from Me." Her swing is artfully subdued ("All or Nothing at All"), and her wry, expressive approach to "Peel Me a Grape" is pure charm. Yet Krall shines most luminously on languid gems such as "I Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance with You" and "Garden in the Rain." Anyone in search of an album ideal for watching city lights at 2 a.m. should keep Love Scenes in mind. --Terry Wood

Great no matter how you slice it
Diana Krall burst into the public's consciousness with this 1997 album and was suddenly hailed left and right as the new jazz sensation. There was subsequently the expected backlash, and now that five years have passed, it may be time to see how this album has stood up. I'm happy to report that it has aged beautifully. On Dave Frishberg's simultaneously hilarious and sexy "Peel Me A Grape," Krall manages to make her voice sound like an aural version of what Mae West looked like visually. You can't go wrong with lyrics like, "Best way to cheer me/Cashmere me," but Krall manages to transcend the slight silliness of the song to give it some real kitten-with-a-whip snap. Towards the end, her whispers and moans have the flavor of the Julie London version of "Go Slow"--all enticement and sex.Krall sings "I Don't Know Enough About You" with a forthrightness and sense of righteous expectation that makes it clear she fully intends to find out more about "you"--and she manages to make every red-blooded listener wish that someone would sing to them this way.On "Lost Mind," Krall admits her helplessness in the face of a "wild romance" and asks for help wherever she can get it, while simultaneously injecting some defiance into her plea for whatever aid she can find. When she sings "He was cool and sweet/Sweet and cool as homemade sin," you find yourself wanting to grab a partner and indulge in a little bit of homemade sin yourself!Too bad Krall grabs all the headlines, because her backing band is brilliantly capable. They show a restraint that's refreshing and which shows off to best advantage the intimate nature of Krall's sinuous voice.

Jazz as it should be
I wore my first copy out, I have all of her Jazz CD's, not the ones she did with her Husband, I'm just Pure Jazz. She reminds me a lot of the late, great Peggy Lee in her voice, my mother use to play Miss Less in the early "60"s when I was 10 or 11,Jazzman65

Krall SACD
I have both the redline CD and just listened to the SACD. I felt that the SACD had a little better imaging and there was greater detail in the instruments, but also that her voice sounded thinner and less rich that the cd version. Overall I still think it is an improvement, but was curious whether the thinner voice was noticed by others or it was just my subjective impression.

Love Scenes Dian Krall
This is a very high quality 5.1 SACD recording which I played via my oppo SACD/DVDA/CD/DVD player, Marantz SR6006 amplifier with two high quality Axiom MV80 speakers for the front speakers and two high quality Mission Speakers for the rear soundstage. The music was impeccably performed and Krall's voice came through beautifully. For me, it was like actually listening to the live performance in an acoustically balanced studio without the distraction and unwanted sounds common with a live audience performance. If you look this type of jazz performance, you will fully enjoy this disc.

Krall nails it....AGAIN!
Main Street Records is the BEST. Quick turnaround on my order. Another outstanding collection by Ms Jazz, Diana Krall. There are those on Amazon who do not appreciate the velvety voice and piano accompaniment of Ms Krall.Ella "scats" too much, Diana Washington was never in the race and Sarah Vaughn is more "blues" than Jazz.Diana can hold her own with anyone in the Jazz movement today. She makes me want to sit in a dark, smoky club (Like Smoky Joe's) with a good single malt and groove with her.

Just not very inspiring....or melodic...
I love to discover new artists and I am trying to appreciate jazz. For me, it seems to still be an acquired taste. There's no doubt that Diana Krall has a rich, low voice, but I wonder if it's being wasted - at least on this CD.I have tried now several times to listen to this album and I find it monotone and lifeless. This is not a commentary on the Diana's potential, but for those of us who like more of a melody, this may not be the album for you.I'll give it a few more listens and leave some more commentary.

A great sounding SACD!
This is one of the best-sounding SACDs in my collection (which is admittedly less than 20 discs). The song choices are superb and "Peel Me a Grape" is a cheeky, swinging version with a great multichannel champagne cork "pop" sound effect in it. Also love her rendition of Sinatra standard "How Deep Is the Ocean".I'd recommend to any SACD enthusiast for sound quality and performance, and any starry eyed romantics who want a disc to pop in for cuddling on the couch.

Meravigliosa
