Rafael Kubelik: Legendary and Rare Recordings

The 4 Brahms are worldly and decisive. These recordings go back to the 1950's. Kubelik likes anything non German. His discography likes to be Chezc. This does not make him too one minded. Dvorak and etc are great, but to hear these Brahms with the Weiner Philharmonic from the 50's is something else. His tempo is varied more than any other conductor, it is like he is living through the Nazis regime and now has to face the Russians. He uses all the music to give relief from terrorism and the despots of those that killed middle Europe. The Brahms cries out for freedom and life. Brahms never thought that a Chezc. conductor could do so much with his symphonies. This is a great look into the Kubelik and Checz. heart.

This set makes clear that today's crop of conductors mostly suck. Beautiful music making from one of the 20th Century's greatest, yet relatively little known, conductors. If you love classical music, I urge you to purchase this set.
