Offidea Compass/Divider

Was looking for compasses to use in my wood working shop. Wanted something sturdy, with some "size" to it. These fit the bill. They are very sturdy and look like they will last a lifetime. If you are looking for something to do school work or very fine drafting, these may be a little to large. But for the "shop" they are perfect. Also like that they use a standard pencil. No need to have special lead.

I am retired professional woodworker, I ordered these as a replacement for my workshop. Initially I was disappointed as the pencil holder was broken off , but the quality of the product was superb. Contacted Amazon and Jake the cofounder of Offidea contacted me the same day and had a replacement on the way which I received in two days. I was so impressed with the quality of their product and fast service that I ordered three more items off their website. Haven't used it yet but look like it will work well. Very sturdy. Not sure about how securely it is going to hold a pencil. Time will tell.

I purchased the 8" compass/divider and it works fine. It seems to be from machined parts and able to stand up to rough wear 'n tear. I have, though, 2 suggestions: buy one size above what you think you need, since I quickly found out I could have used a compass with a bigger radius. Also, when using the pencil for marking near the top of the compass' range, the pencil is at such an extreme acute angle to the marking piece that it's awkward to get a fine (sharp) line. If the pencil holding capsule were hinged at the bottom end of the capsule so the pencil could be rotated to a vertical position to compensate for extreme measurement angles, that would solve the problem.

This has a good weight and is very sturdy. There doesn't seem to be much on it that could break, which is why I chose it. Easy to grip and handle, smooth function. The only thing that would make it perfect would be a little rubber or rounded edge on the center point (if you're using it to draw circles on paper, the point will go through your paper).

I bought this as a gift for my woodworker husband, who needed a compass. So far as I know, this one is great. It certainly seems well made and elegant, actually.

It is a very large, well build, and perfect for wood working. Well worth the price. This is not the compass tool you used in 8th grade math.
