Cool jacket, but sizes run too small
I received this as a gift. First, the good... this jacket is like the Swiss Army Knife of coats. The feature set is amazing, the pockets are all well thought out and well-placed. The construction appears to be solid so far, although the zipper is a little stiff at the lower extreme, so it can be difficult to start. Hopefully, this will improve with use. From a design perspective, it's a great product and, with starting a new job involving a ton of travel, I was really looking forward to using it. Here's where we come to the bad...I'm a bigger guy. Broad shoulders, barrel chest, that sort of thing. Diet has been slimming the waist, but the gym is keeping the shoulders and chest pretty stable. Even so, most of my garments have gone from a 3X to a 2X. I just recently purchased another coat (before I knew about this one) that's a comfortably roomy fit at a 2X. When I tried on the 3X size of this coat, the first issue I found was that the shoulders were extremely tight and the shoulder seams felt slightly constricting. The waist fit fine, but it doesn't begin to close over my chest. Looking at size charts and taking some measurements, we found that the shoulder seams on this coat measure at 21", which is 2-3 inches smaller than the average 3X men's garment size and certainly smaller than every other 2X t-shirt, coat, or jacket that I own. That extra 2-3 inches would likely have allowed the coat to fit normally, as I only needed about an extra inch and half. It's unfortunate, because this really is a nice coat. It's just too bad that the company doesn't use more conventional sizes. On the plus side, it fits my 5'3" mother just fine, so at least she'll have the coolest coat on the block. So 3X Men's apparently equals roughly Women's XL? Oh well, live and learn!
