What you need to know about the app...
So... here's the real scoop. The device IS easy to use like most people have mentioned and it is a great value for your money. HOWEVER you need to make sure you download the right app for the device to work. There's two versions, inskam and inskamPro. DO NOT DOWNLOAD PRO - IT WILL NOT WORK. Save yourself a lot of hassle and trust me on this. (learn from my mistake) The regular version of the app is pretty easy to use, but there's no tutorial so you just have to figure it out on your own.As far as the device goes - I really wish there was a little bit more instruction on the device. The instructions that come in the box don't really tell you how to use it -you can pretty much figure it out by playing with everything. If you're going to use it as a hand held scope like I am, you need to hold the wand directly over the object at the height/detail you want, and then turn the focus wheel. Once you get close to the detail level you want, you can fine tune the focus by holding the wand closer/farther away.... it's much easier than trying to rotate the wheel while keeping the wand steady (and looking at your cell phone for picture clarity). But that's using it without the stand. Using the stand makes it easier.

True Resolution .3mp
This camera's ad is a bit confusing at one point claiming the clearly impossible "30mp" from a 640x480. That resolution uses a .3mp sensor apparently and the pictures taken are good ONLY for coin viewing or other tasks on the larger end of microscope use. Viewing small objects like plants or grains of dust will require 2mp. The pictures available from this become grainy beyond things as small as text on a coin. For those of you wishing to view trichomes: this is not the product for you. They will appear unclear and you will not be able to tell the difference between clear and clouded without quite a bit of effort. Keep searching for a true 2mp microscope or better. They exist at this price point but it's a bit like dice with the accuracy of the ads.Included is a picture of a coin as that is the smallest object I have a desire to view with this... nothing smaller forms a terribly useful image.

Original app stopped working shortly after purchase
I bought this for my, then, three-year-old grandson for me to use for him while looking at bugs. It really was great and for the money, I was very happy until the app stopped working, I contacted the company but there was no reply. I recently found another app and was able to resurrect the microscope for our use. Yes, it does have flaws and you need a steady hand and there is a learning curve but all in all, now that I found a new app I think we will enjoy it once again. When he is older I will get him something more expensive and of better quality. (The new app is called MScopes.)

Great for what it is!
This is a simple, non-scientific grade, microscope. It functions easily, plug it into your phone, use the recommended app and in seconds you're looking at things close-up. It has good magnification and is easy to use. For simple observation of surface scratches, getting a close view of coins, minerals, or gems, this is a fantastic little device and well worth the money. If you require a scientific, lab quality microscope for some highly classified research project - this is not the tool for you. This is a simple, ooh and ahh kind of thing that can give you a close in view to keep you amused. My daughter and I spent quite a bit of time just looking at a handful of play sand with this and marveling at all the different minerals that go into making up something as simple as sand. How cool!I'm glad I got this, and have no regrets. I'd recommend it for anyone who just wants to see the world a little more closely.

Dim LED
I downloaded the camera app for Win 10 and the inskam app for Android. This camera works with both however the LEDs are so dim I have to use a flashlight to illuminate the subject I am viewing or I get a black screen. Pushing the button only takes a picture with the Android app. It does nothing with the Win 10 app.UPDATE:Another great Chinese device with a really bad user manual. I found a rotary wheel on the USB cord that adjusts the LED brightness. I have changed my review to 4 stars not 5 due to the poor users guide which says nothing about this control.

Works, but not quite as specified.
The attached flip-up MicroUSB to USB adapter is a good idea but will likely be easily subject to damage if not firmly snapped in place. It's plug-n-play, but if you don't already have display software you'll have to download software from the links included in the user manual. The product description says that the device "With the help of high power 50x to 1000x digital microscope, you can see details clearly from the objects. portable magnification is a useful and funny microscope for kids, students, engineers, inventors, and others who need to magnify and explore the micro things.", but I could find no way to adjust the magnification; and the user manual only parroted the 50x-1000x spec with no mention of adjusting. The LED's are adjustable, but at max brightness they were barely visible, even when looking directly at them; and thus illumination was totally un-usable.I'm keeping it because I have a desk lamp and it'd be a PITA to return it. Spend your money on one of the many other options.

Simple and fun to use.
First of all let me just say, wow. This thing performed way better than I ever could have hoped. Especially for the price. I looked at IC part numbers, microfiber towels, holograms, torn paper, leaves, onion peel... Lots of stuff. Once I started with it I went on a microscoping rampage that lasted, honestly about 4 days. Me and my 4 kids looked at everything we could think of. It is a robust little thing, and the USB plug that fits every USB outlet in existence, is spectacular.I have let my kids play with it for the last 2 days and well... It still works. That's 4 kids that love to argue about who held what last and how long did they have it.... Hey stop it!.... I had to take it away. Needless to say the kids loved it and I loved it. I don't think I can really think of any flaws other than the "snap" button doesn't work with Windows but it did work with the app.TL;DRGreat little microscope for the money, works, kids loved it. Handy for reading small IC part numbers. Get it.
