The Poems Are WRONG
First of all, this arrived in a box just tossed in with other books I ordered. Not wrapped in a protective plastic or anything to suggest it’s new. I was totally okay with overlooking this because I was so excited to read my favorite poem of Nikita’s, “Wolf and Woman.” I quickly found where it was in the book, flipped to the page, and quickly realized something was wrong. It’s not even written correctly. The book reads, “Some days, I am both wolf and woman, and I am still learning how to apologize for my wild.” The ACTUAL poem is, “Some days, I am more wolf than woman, and I am still learning how to stop apologizing for my wild.” The whole point of the poem is to NOT apologize for being who you are. Why would someone write the exact opposite? I honestly have no idea how many more poems are wrong, I have no idea why this one was, but now I’m really worried because ordered two other books of Nikita’s. Are they wrong, too, or was it just this manufacturer? Maybe your book is correct, maybe it isn’t. Either way, I would think twice before buying from this seller.

Do yourself a favor and buy this!
As a recovering Christian, I needed something to fill my soul on days I needed hope. This book did that for me. It's brought me more comfort and healing than any religious bible ever has. As a woman, please buy this. We need this. Nikita is not just another Instagram poet, she is real, she is talented, and she is love. I can't wait to buy her other book! Thank you, Nikita!

Poems printed incorrectly
Let me start by saying that I really enjoy Nikita Gill’s work. But I am disappointed that this book has my favorite poem printed incorrectly in it. It makes me wonder if more poems in the book are printed incorrectly too.

Not what I expected
I bought this book based on a poem I read that was very cool and empowering. I was surprised at how 99% of the poems were very anti male. I have 3 boys and found the generalizations unpleasant. If your a gung ho feminist your going to love it.

... was a face poetry read for me and I enjoyed it mostly
This was a face poetry read for me and I enjoyed it mostly. The language is very flowery which seems average for poetry but feels overdone in this book. I loved the fairy tale retelling poems and the ones about the Greek goddesses. Those peaked my interest about how life could look if we tried hard enough. It was easy to read, fun, and overall worth it.

5 stars
Absolutely breath taking. Nikita's work is so raw and passionate but written in a beautiful way. Reading this book made me self reflect, cry, and remind myself to be strong. These poems kept the theme of the sky with constellations and the Earth. She used beautiful metaphors to create imagery within each of her poems.

Beyond words...
This is probably the best compilation of poetry that I have come across. Nikita Gill’s words are so powerful and beautiful. This book is truly one of the best purchases I have ever made.

A stunning collection of poems put together with an abundance of confidence, love and creativity.
Wild Embers, is a stunning collection of poems put together with an abundance of confidence, love and creativity. I’m not an avid reader of poetry, in fact, if you’d asked me last month I’d have told you I hated it. I blame this on studying all the technicalities of it at school and university to the point where I resented it. But, Nikita Gill has completely altered my perspective (which I consider a massive feat due to my stubborn nature).Filled to the brim with short and long, joyful and sad, reassuring and angering poems, Wild Embers should be on everybody’s TBR, especially my fellow women! Who doesn’t love a read that makes them really feel?First of all, the cover is absolutely gorgeous. The foil detailing shines in the light like actual embers falling from a fire, and, in combination with the complete design, it holds the essence of the universe brilliantly. Somehow it captures the way it conspires to bring everything together in the world and our lives with an endless and magical sort of power. In addition to that, the title of the collection speaks a thousand words: we all have a fire in us and when it’s fed, it can be wild and explosive in the most beautiful way possible. If there’s anything to take from Gill’s work, it’s to feed that fire and embrace all that it brings. To deliver that message, the poems instill confidence in the reader, alongside the belief that the things that can be portrayed as a weakness in females, are in fact powerful. Gill’s writing is incredibly empowering, to say the least, and while it did speak on things that I was already aware of, it also brought to light other issues in patriarchal society that I hadn’t considered before.Between the wonderful way in which she rewrites the fairytales that a lot of us grew up hearing, and the important lessons that we should never forget to teach our sons and daughters, Wild Embers is a dazzling piece of work. As previously implied, I’ve never reviewed poetry before, so if you’ve read this and have any thoughts that are dis/similar to my own, please don’t hesitate to comment below, I’d love to have a conversation!I’m giving Nikita Gill’s Wild Embers 5 out of 5 stars, and fully intend to hand this masterpiece down to my future daughter/s. I’m so thankful to have read this.MY FAVORITES:‘Girls of the Wild’‘Boys will be Boys’‘Pandora’s Box’(to be quite honest with you I have 12 favourites, but those are definitely my top 3)

She Just Gets It.
Nikita Gill writes in a way that really works for me. I love that she often uses metaphor, that her tone is equal parts gentle and vicious and that her ideas are usually based upon animals, folklore or chaos. I think she overuses some of her ideas in the knowledge that they’re effective, for instance she speaks about wolves often within this collection, but I don’t necessarily think this is intended to be read as an entire body of work, digesting all of the poems at once, and so it doesn’t really matter. Her take on Disney princesses and goddesses from Greek mythology was easily the most enjoyable part of this book, many of which I read multiple times or shared with loved ones because they meant something to me. The focus is less about femininity and self-worth than that of her “Fierce Fairytales” collection, although this still features, but delves further into identity and being comfortable in your own skin. I liked that there were clear differences between her collections, and that she focused largely upon poems rather than short stories this time.I can’t really put my finger on exactly what it is that I enjoy so much about Nikita Gill’s writing; I guess I just feel like she perfectly captures some of my own internal monologue. Maybe it’s as simple as having found the “something” that is often missing for me in other books.

Lovely!
I saw this book advertised in quite a few places, and eventually bought my own copy. I am very happy I did - so much of the poetry is empowering, and I already have a few of my favourites! Really enjoying Gill's work, and would love to read her other book 'Your Soul Is A River' if it is ever on paperback in the UK.The book is of good quality, and the front cover sparkles and is stunning. A very nice book to dip in and out of!

I adored this book, so much so, I will be reading everything she's ever written! There were some magical, thought-provoking poems in here and I treasured every single one.

Hard to read and hard to stop reading.
This book was difficult to read, because the content is dense, dark and intensive, dealing with heavy issues such as abuse and mental health. But that very same darkness made it an incredibly powerful, affirming and beautiful read. Although I haven't had the same experiences as Nikita Gill, I can relate to the feelings and thoughts she has expressed. Magnificent poetry.
