Not for self-study, if you've never studied Hebrew before.
Without any exposure to the Hebrew alphabet (or aleph-bet) or basic syntax, this book would be very challenging to follow. If it is your first time encountering Hebrew at all, I'd recommend something more rudimentary like http://www.amazon.com/Teach-Yourself-Hebrew-Ethelyn-Simon/dp/0939144115/ref=pd_cp_b_0.I was lucky enough to use this book during a summer session at Brandeis with one of the authors. I'd already studied Hebrew for three years before then, but was rusty on practicing conversations in real-time.For me, it was the perfect review, covering a lot of content and vocabulary words. I'd used the Ivrit Min Hachatchala (Hebrew from Scratch) series before this, which is used in Hebrew University's Ulpan, and that book didn't use English at all, so this book is a welcome alternative. I found the concepts a lot clearer in this book, and the units are manageable and build on each other.I would definitely recommend a book like Hebrew Verb Tables (http://www.amazon.com/Hebrew-Verb-Tables-Tarmon/dp/9653760106/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372172452&sr=8-1&keywords=hebrew+verb+tables) to supplement this.I sat in an intensive summer study class that used this book, and the "new" learners caught on really quickly, so I think this book is incredibly efficient in how it is laid out as long as the teacher really encourages using the vocabulary in conversations. I was impressed by how much people in the class recalled the information, and feel like the book is especially strong used in classroom/real-time.I'm actually purchasing this book again for my own personal library, since I used the school's library copy before.

A Great Text
I am using this book as a supplement to an Ulpan class I am teaching to seniors. It is very extensive and has some wonderful explanation, stories and exercises. The best on the market for teaching and learning Hebrew.

Learning the Hebrew language is never easy but, Brandeis makes it as painless as possible
Learning the Hebrew language is never easy but, Brandeis makes it as painless as possible! This course will lead you to a good understand of the basics of Hebrew grammar, language skills, and pronunciation. It is the best course available in my opinion.

It has a great organization inside and I found it very much useful
I use this book as a reference book. It has a great organization inside and I found it very much useful. What I like in it most is that it brings a lot of text that relate to the material. Very Israeli, and involves sources from the tanach too. Worth it. I gave it only 4 stars because it came with some answers inside and the seller wrote that it's like new. Very good condition at least.

This book could have been formatted a little better in my opinion
This book could have been formatted a little better in my opinion, but I survived a year of college hebrew, so it couldn't be that bad.

Good exercises. Best to use with a teacher
Well organised and presented. Clear font. Good exercises. Best to use with a teacher , but could be managed independently by a diligent student.
