They fail to mention that this is a miniture brush for tiny dogs or a cat.

I ordered the same brush for my long-haired german shepherd. It was a joke. I gave it my friend who has a chihuahua. They price it so it's more of an inconvenience to return it, so we all end up keeping it. I love their undercoat brush and they are actually accurate in that description.

will this work on a short haired dog like a pit?

Yes, half of the brush is suitable, if you use just the softer brush part it works well on short hair. I wouldn't recommended the other side with longer stiff bristles for a pit though. The stiffer bristles are good if used gently on a medium to long haired dog.

How do I clean the brush?

I have a basic stainless steel grooming comb, one end being larger than the other (you can find them here). The smaller comb side clears the brush side, whereas the larger spaced end cleans the wire side.

Does the brush come off? I bought fur accumulator and it doesn't come with the handle.

Mine came with a handle , I clean on the bristle side with a comb and the spike side I pull the fur out with my hand. I use it on my long haired cat.
