Security and Convenience-Live GPS and IFTTT Integration
This is a great buy. Don’t even doubt it. Here’s why:*Integrates with IFTTT so it’ll notify you if your car leaves a certain area for extra security in case your kid sneaks out with the car. Also works so that when you shut off your ignition near your home, your smart plug turns on. Useful for never having to hit the light switch at home when carrying bags full of groceries.*Live GPS tracking so if you let someone borrow the car you always know where it is. Great to track down a thief or your children. Also gives me peace of mind when I leave the car with the valet or at a body shop or paint shop. I’m always paranoid an employee will drive my car to run personal errands or go on a joy ride lol.*Clean and reliable user interface. App is modern and easy to use.*Keeps logs of your trips, including time, distance, and a map that shows where you went. Calculates average mpg for me which I am obsessive about even before I bought this.*No fees or subscription costs. Guaranteed at least 5 years.Have had it for a few months. Love it. Can’t comment on crash notification though. Hopefully never have to test it or use it. Also haven’t tested the suggestions for improved mpg. I like the way I drive and don’t intend to change it. It’s convenient, useful, and gives me peace of mind.*** Note, it can integrate with IFTTT and most smart plugs except for the amazon branded smart plug that came with my echo dot. Not Automatic’s or IFTTT’s fault, it’s amazon’s plug which will only work directly with Alexa. Other smart plugs will integrate with my echo and directly with IFTTT which links to my Automatic Pro.

Wow this is an outstanding piece of technology
Go figure, this thing really works...and works well. I had this in my may order, may not order, bucket for months. I had the standard Automatic unit and ended up scrapping it because it was always dropping connection with my phone. The old unit was really annoying. It wouldn't connect reliably and I would lose my trip data. The idea of this unit that connects to cellular without my phone being involved was compelling. I decided to pull the trigger and buy it. Man am I glad I did. It does an outstanding job capturing vehicle data. It can sometimes be a bit behind, but it always works. I have one on my wife's car as well and set them to call each other in case of an accident. There are a few things to keep in mind with this device.- A mobile, internet connected device, is required when pairing the Automatic PRO with a vehicle and your account. There is no way to activate a device and ship it to someone to install in a remote vehicle. I have a car I keep in another state. I would love to have the automatic on the car to keep track of it. Others can drive it. I also have elder parents that live out of state. It would be nice to send them a configured Automatic to plug in, but that is not possible. I will eventually go to all of these vehicles, but I would have bought a lot more of these if I could preconfigure and ship it.- Firmware needs to be updated when installing for the first time. The configuring phone must stay within bluetooth range the entire time. It takes about 10-15 minutes. The vehicle cannot be driving during the update. Don't start the installation until you have at least 20-30 minutes to sit in the vehicle.- The device must have Cellular coverage to work. Road trips through the middle of nowhere are not going to be streaming real-time data. Cellular coverage by a phone is not an indicator of coverage. This device is mounted under the dashboard. There is a lot of metal between the device and the outside world. It works perfectly in the city, but I can foresee this losing connectivity if one were to travel cross country or lives in a poor cellular coverage area. An ODB II extender cable can help get the device closer to a window.- Nothing is free. I suspect Automatic is selling vehicle data to justify providing free connectivity from this device. Not a huge problem for me, but it is a big brother technology. Everything the vehicle is doing including speed, braking, location, acceleration, accident stats, etc. is being tracked and recorded in cloud servers. The data would be discoverable in court as well.Bottom line is if you want to track what your vehicle or any vehicle in your fleet is doing, this device does it well. I am not generally impressed with technology, but I am impressed with what Automatic has done. The Automatic PRO is lightyears ahead of the original Automatic device. It is exceptional.
