This study book (2014) uses the Old DSM-IV-TR (2000); NOT the DSM-5 (2013), even though it was published afterwards! Not COOL!!!
This book has a copyright of 2014. The DSM-5 has a copyright of 2013. It only makes sense that the study guide would teach the reader the most current and up to date information upon its publication. This book describes disorders only from the DSM-IV-TR (2000), which is totally different from the DSM-5 (2013); WHY? The newest DSM has a completely restructured format to where many of the diagnoses have been changed, added, or removed. Also, there are no longer five axes, which have been dismissed. Autism is now on a spectrum. Therefore, much of the text in this study guide is no longer accurate, even though it was published after the DSM-5 was introduced. It appears that the authors put this book on the market knowing the DSM section(s) were out of date and no longer valid, likely due to them not wanting to spend the extra time correcting all of the references over from the DSM-IV-TR to the new DSM-5. No need for anyone to study/learn the old DSM information in this study guide.

I passed the EPPP on the first try, but ...
I passed the EPPP on the first try, but I wouldn't say it was due primarily to this book. It was decent, but shouldn't be considered the only resource. Also, the book's test questions weren't complicated enough to provide a sense of the difficulty of the EPPP and gave me a somewhat false sense of confidence.

Great first step and refresher tool
For the price, this was perfect. I supplemented it with other study materials that were passed on from classmates and colleagues. Expecting to rely solely on such a short book is incredibly naive. This book reviews a little bit of everything, enough to get your feet wet before taking the plunge on study programs that cost hundreds of dollars!

Good first step
If you've been dragging your feet on studying for the EPPP, this is a good first step to at least get started. I wouldn't use this as a stand-alone study method - it's a very brief review of the general areas covered by the EPPP. I mostly gave it 3 stars because it contains quite a few mistakes that matter, e.g., Haley and Madanes Strategic Family Therapy is labeled as Structural Family Therapy (p. 210). It seems like it may have been proofread by an editorial assistant rather than a psychologist?Again, though, if you've been procrastinating and need just to start practicing the behavior of studying, then this is an affordable first step.

DSM-IV rather than 5
This prep book was a big disappointment - having antiquated information. It does not include a review of the DSM-5, but rather prepares the reader for expired and far outdated information from the DSM-IV. Should be taken OFF the shelf!

important book to include in study. Plus suggestion for two corrections.
This book has been an integral part of my study for the EPPP. Of course it must be supplemented, as must any other study material. The strength of this book, though, is the focus on recent research. Most of the other study material available to candidates (including the material from the big study review companies) will review long-known theories and well-covered concepts. This book, though, has an eye on the more recent research findings and theories that are likely to be tested. (One example might be the semantic marker hypothesis of emotions, which I haven't seen covered in other study materials. There were many other examples, too. The discussion of disorders is also more recent than other study materials, including more up-to-date coverage of the most current best treatments for disorders. The last chapter (Chapter 9: Preparation Strategies and Tips) makes the point well: "...the EPPP evaluates knowledge that the most recent practice analysis has determined as foundational to the competent practice of psychology..." (p. 326) "Successfully preparing for the EPPP means mastering the most recent knowledge about psychology as a profession." (p. 328) The importance of the word "recent" in that should stand out for every candidate. This book helps with that. Make room for this book in your study. Now, for the authors, two suggestions for the next edition. Both are from the final 100 questions at the end of the book. (a.) Question 12, page 333. Should the word "not" be dropped from the question? (b.) The answer to question 37, on page 351. Based on the question and the narrative explanation given, the answer should be "B. Preoperational stage." Otherwise, great book. Highly recommended.

I would recommend.
The information was very specific and it clarified each question. I found the book to be very informative. I utilized it with other EPPP study materials.I would recommend.

Helpful
I used dated study materials and supplemented by renting the kindle version of this book. It isn't sufficient on its own but does a lovely job addressing very recent literature which is absent pricier program materials. I passed the Eppp on first attempt with a solid score.

V basic introduction
From a personal standpoint, I thought this book was terrible for my preparation. Way too vague and many of the questions on the EPPP exam did not reflect information from the book. People have described using his book as a start point, I guess it is a start but studying needs so much more

Three Stars
Good basics, but you will need more to pass the exam.
