The Gigging Guitarist: Traditional Hymns and Spirituals For Fingerstyle Guitar

These pieces take a different tack from your usual fingerstyle arrangements. Instead of the customary alternating bass boom-chick, these hymn arrangements emphasize movement across adjacent strings. The economy of finger movement makes these pieces pleasurable to play. The author’s avoidance of bar positions is greatly appreciated. I play these arrangements with reverb or a “pad” to highlight the notes ringing out.I hope the author will publish a follow up volume.

When you have a little notice of an impending performance, these pieces can be played as written with very little preparation. When you have more time to prepare, it is easy to add whatever harmony you are comfortable with-a wonderful concept, long overdue.

I really like these books. Just played a couple of Christmas shows and the Christmas book came in handy!

I hate to give a bad review to somebody who helped by arranging hymns for the guitar but since there are no lyrics with it, it's not useful at all.

Absolutely brilliant! For me, these tunes are at perfect "Goldilocks" difficulty--not too hard and not too easy. The arrangements are lovely and they're fun to play. Go for it, you won't regret it!

Too simple. For a beginner
