Fill Your Eyes
I was too old for comic books in 1972 but as a follower of Joe Kubert I became an instant fan of Joe's adaptation of Edgar Rice Burrough's "Tarzan." The style of Joe on this project is like the 1930's newspaper edition and that translates into fine art over wonderful stories. DC had just raised their price to 25 cents for a standard comic book and Joe could go long and display his beautiful work and layouts in this series.I purchased this thick and heavy paperback in 2016 right as it was being released and at $30.00 it seemed a bit pricey but the quality of this meets up with the price as it contains full color stories and Joe's recollections and some of his sketchbook pages added in towards the end of the book. Dark Horse, did a wonderful job on this volume and it collects comic books from 1972-1975. I didn't buy all of these comic books back then and it's so nice to have them all collected together and presented here. Some of the best comic work ever is found in this book.FIVE STARS!!!

If you're either a Kubert or a Tarzan fan, you need this
First off, Kubert's art and adaptations are both fabulous. If you're simply a collector of fine comics work, this is for you.If, however, you are a fan of Tarzan, this is also a can't miss. Outside of the novels themselves, I'm not sure there is a finer depiction of the Lord of the Jungle in any other media. It's faithful to the spirit of Burroughs, not altering that a jot, and yet Kubert's art brings an immediacy to the character that not even the printed word can really manage. This is golden stuff, and i advice you to pick it up without delay.

Kubert The King of Tarzan Comics!
I didn't read Tarzan comics when I was a kid but I did read the Burroughs books. I've since discovered these adaptions by DC Comics and they are fantastic. Joe Kubert's ability to depict action and mood is unrivaled and until we see a collection of John Buscema's Tarzan work for Marvel Comics I'm going to say this is the best depiction of Tarzan in comics.

Just as I loved as a child of the 70s...get it while you can
Only way it would be better is to offer a hard cover...must have for any Tarzan fan because not only did I love these as a pre-teen, I didn't realize until I read Kubert's forward what a big ERB fan he was. Part of the loving care with which he crafted these stories was out of a desire that people would read the original novels and he really captured the spirit of ERB which is always a problem particularly in the Tarzan movies. Which the softcover is understandable for the graphic novel format it is taking a beating by my 8 and 10 boys who are enjoying the tales as much as I did at their age and soon they will probably be enjoying the novels as I did as a tweenager.

Only You Know If The Ape Man Is Your Thing
Bronze age Tarzan in color and with visible line work- does justice to the art, could use a bit larger page format though hence the loss of a star. You already know the story- human raised by gorillas- meets woman from city- hilarity ensues. I'm both thrilled but amazed this was reprinted at all as the character has been more popular in cartoons and movies than the comic ever was- though I of course haven't seen the original sales figures but Tarzan never had the popularity of Batman or Superman for example.

The best Tarzan Comics ...
As a fan of Joe Kubert and Tarzan, I was happy when they were "united" years ago. The resulting comics were, in my opinion, the best representation of Edgar Rice Burroughs creation. I believe they were described as "Tarzan with guts"; and that was trueSo glad Dark Horse decided to collect, and reprint, Joe's Tarzan stories by publishing them in a very handsome book.I have a signed B&W print, same as the cover of the book, and it is one of my prize possessions.Needless to say, I like the book very much and I urge all ERB fans to purchase and enjoy the book.

Perhaps the finest Tarzan comics ever made collected in one reasonably priced volume
This very nice, very affordable volume collects stories that grew in reputation over the years as some of the finest "Tarzan" comics as well as some of the finest work of Joe Kubert's legendary career. While my personal taste has tended towards Russ Manning's "Tarzan" comics as my favorites, finally having the opportunity to read Kubert's run, I'd rate his run right there with Manning's. I'd argue that Joe's work is more visceral and true to the core of ERB's vision than any other Tarzan illustrator's work, including Hogarth and Foster. (Has any character had better luck with illustrators than Tarzan?)

A Great Kubert Collection
Kubert is always one of my favorite illustrators. His writing here is superb. The artwork on jungle scenes and wild animals are quite astounding. This volume is well designed. It includes the three hard cover volumes printed by Dark Horse, and yet, this big volume is easy to carry and easy to open while reading. Thus, it has none of the problems that sometimes affect those big volumes. In addition to this, it has a great price for such high quality comic books.

Tarzan + Kubert + Dark Horse = Great!
Joe Kubert is a legend of comic book art - and if you need any evidence to back that up, it's all here in this book. There is not a bad page here, and if anything, the art improves with each issue, which is pretty rare for a mature artist. I'm not really going to comment on the stories too much, it's Tarzan, pretty faithfully taken from the books. If you are expecting some kind of superhero Tarzan, no, this is good old-fashioned action adventure, with a fair dollop of fantasy thrown in (giant people, giant animals, that sort of thing). What is really pleasing is the quality of reproduction - Dark Horse have not messed up the colouring, it has stayed true to the spirit of the original 70s, which is how it was meant to be - computer colours on artwork that was not designed for it tends to look horrible (yes, I'm talking to you Neal Adams). The paper is high quality, with a slight sheen. Shame it's not a hardcover, I guess it would have increased the cost considerably.Overall, thoroughly enjoyable, and well worth the money.

Tour-de-Force

a rare treat
A gem of a book with three volumes of collected Tarzan comics. Brings the work by Joe Kubert in an affordable volume. The paper is glossy bringing to life the jungle pictures in vivid detail. The stories include comic adaptions of Edgar rice Burroughs stories and serve as a great introduction to youngsters interested in classic literature.
