A Fun Read
If you love mysteries, then this one will not be difficult to solve but it was still a quick, fun read, with a littke romance thrown in.

A good mystery with some fun and solid characters
This was a really fun and quick read! I've had this on my Kindle for a long time now and was happy to get an excuse to finally read it, excuse being another online book club discussion for this weekend. The four Blackmoore Sisters lived in Noquitt, Maine in a huge old mansion. Celeste worked at a yoga studio in town, Jolene had recently graduated and was still deciding what she wanted to do (and she did think of something as the story ended). Fiona was a gemologist and Morgan was a pharmacologist master herabalist. Together they ran Sticks and Stones, their family business. When a very disagreeable local woman is killed, the crooked sheriff right away tried to pin it on Morgan. With the help of a newer officer who had worked in Boston, Fiona was determined to prove her sister's innocence. All the sisters pitched in and helped in various ways. The perp was caught but the sheriff was still a bad person but no proof to be found.I really liked Jake Cooper! He was such a nice police officer and all around decent guy. I loved how he was trying to do the right thing and how he still thought something was not right where the sheriff was concerned. I'll be anxious to find out how things progress with him and Fiona. Also at the end of the book, Morgan thought she spotted someone familiar...but was it? She was hoping for an uneventful summer as she put it but her gut was telling her otherwise. And she knew to listen to her gut.I'm looking forward to reading on in this series. The main mystery was solved but I like how there seems to be an ongoing thing about the sheriff that will keep needing investigated and also the little tease at the end of the story about someone Morgan knew once. Oh and I did guess the killer and also the reason for once but I still had a good time being diverted by other possibles and also tracking down and taking down the killer.I'm the type who reads on after a story is done, after all when it's not 100% there has to be more, right? I found a really interesting note from the author telling about the area she wrote about for this story and how Perkins Cove is real. And there really was a creepy house there she remembered but said it was now fixed up and had become a summer rental. There is also an excerpt at the end from the first in another series by this author. I have that book as well and have been meaning to start reading it.

Decent read
The four Blackmoore sisters live in Noquitt, Maine in a home that has been in their family for over 200 years. The two oldest, Morgan and Fiona, are the main focal point in this story and they have their own shop on the property, Sticks and Stones, an herbal remedies and jewelry store. It is no secret that the Blackmoore's and the town shrew, Prudence Littlefield, don't like each other. When oldest sister, Morgan, is overheard threatening Prudence at a local coffee shop, and then Prudence ends up dead, Morgan is the first and only suspect for the inept town Sheriff. Luckily, Jake, a detective who recently moved from Boston, is also on the case. With his help, the sisters start investigating into who killed Prudence, and why Morgan was set up to take the fall. This was a quick, cute, and fun little read. I finished it in one day. It wasn't the best cozy mystery I have ever read but it also wasn't the worst. It was a little clunky at times and you never did get to find out what happened to their mother. According to the book, she committed suicide by jumping off the cliff that runs along their property years prior, but it's never stated why or given any type of backstory. It was also ridiculous the way the Sheriff didn't follow some of the most basic and commonly known police procedures while investigating the murders. Which was another thing that bothered me a little. There were 2 murders that occurred, but the focus was mostly on the first one. The second murder really wasn't necessary in order to tie up the investigation and I was able to figure out who the killer was immediately. Even with all that, it was still a pretty decent book.As far as the characters, I liked all the sisters even though I felt like they could have used a little more development. Jake, the detective, was a nice, if not somewhat predictable, love interest for Fiona. When it came to Sheriff Overton, I had the hardest time with his character. Mostly due to the fact that you never find out his reasons for disliking the sisters so much. You also get a sense that he has involvement in the murders, but you never find out what that is. He seemed to create more questions than answers.I was a bit disappointed that this was not a witchy or paranormal mystery. Something about it made me think it was. Maybe because the shop the two sisters own is a very New Age type store. There was a feline who was fairly present in the story however and continuously "assisted" the sisters in their investigation so that made up for some of that. I am always up for a good cat cozy and this could almost be classified as such. All in all if you are looking for a light, rainy day read, then I would recommend this book. Just don't go into it expecting too much.

Good read, but not my style.
It was an easy-reading experience and I liked the characters, the house and the writing. On the negative side, whilst I was entertained I wasn't challenged and felt that everything fell into place too quickly in the end, almost as if it was racing to a word limit rather than a proper conclusion. If you're a fan of the genre I'm sure it's excellent, but I prefer something a bit longer with more of a puzzle. That's also true of the romance element, which was pretty simplistic too. Tend to agree with the reviewer who thought this was more of a book for a younger age group. It was free, so great value. It was also a pleasant way to pass a few hours. However, if called on to pay, I'd think twice, as there are plenty of good crime books about which would offer a more fulfilling read.In conclusion, as I say in the title, it was a good read, but it isn't really to my taste.

Entertaining
I unexpectedly really enjoyed this book! The main characters are an engaging family of four sisters who have to find a murderer after one sister is suspected. I did guess the culprit before the conclusion but that didn't spoil the read as obviously I didn't know for sure! I'm not a fan of romantic books but it wasn't too sickly and although it was a romantic book it was more a thread running through the mystery than purely concentrating on the romance. I read the book fairly quickly and found it was just what I wanted at the time - an easy to read bit of escapism. I didn't notice any spelling or grammar errors which added to the ease of reading. If you're looking for a book to curl up with or read on the beach , this is ideal as it could be put down and then picked up again without losing the thread.

"Nothing wrong at all; it's dead right"
I see this is the start of a series; well, it was pretty impressive stuff. All four sisters had a role to play. There was a murder early on and the local police chief was desperate to pin it on Morgan Blackmore. With the evidence stacking up against her it was left to her, her sisters, a few true friends, and a new hunky policeman to find the true killer. Not much of a series if we see one of the main characters banged up in Book One is it, so no spoiler there. The good guys are good and look the part. The bad guys are not so good to look at and are easy to spot. This is a straightforward cozy murder mystery that delivers exactly what it says on the front cover. A very pleasing read for a few hours relaxation. This series promises to be good fun.

Would suit the Young Adult audience
The four Blackmoore sisters have a long established place in their New England town's history with more than a hint of witchcraft at its heart. However, they themselves are simply struggling to make ends meet so that they can keep their beloved old house in the family. The usual plot with the standard characters make this a fairly standard mystery with few surprises other than the odd characters thrown in at random to make the storyline work and a somewhat ill-informed view of how the legal system operates. Not my cup of herb tea but a light read for younger readers.

It's a light easy style with good plot lines that are well developed ...
As an avid reader I need a broad range and the Cozy Mystery books and lighter reads are my balancer. Having studied literature I'm not a book snob and will read most things as long as it's well written. Leighann Dobbs writes well. It's a light easy style with good plot lines that are well developed and have very likeable characters. I've now read all the Blackmoore sisters and the Ghostly Paws as crime, mystery and paranormal are my favourite genres and await the next ones. There are others by the author including ones around a bakery which if going by the standard of the ones I've read will be an equally good read making her a versatile author reaching a wide audience.
