Excellent Norpro Doughnut Maker
My first batch of doughnuts came out fine, see photo. The hole isn't always as round as it could be, but that's of no concern to me. I will fine-tune the recipes for proper batter viscosity and proper drop placement into the fryer and they'll be perfect. I made the Old-Fashioned doughnuts, in regular and chocolate, with sugar, or sugar & cinnamon, or sugar & chocolate as the coatings. All three coatings came out well and the doughnuts taste excellent. All of the recipes included with the doughnut maker are good. The Norpro doughnut maker takes away the steps of having to roll-out dough and cut-out the doughnuts. It's just plop, plop and the doughnuts are frying. Two cups of batter in the maker will make about 20 doughnuts. There is no better Norpro doughnut maker made, it makes fine doughnuts and is easy to clean. I'm very happy with this doughnut maker and I'm sure it will make many hundreds of dozens of excellent tasting doughnuts for me, and my friends.

The recipes that come with this make great donuts but not real great construction
The consept of this is great. I tried the donut maker that was electric and it worked perfectly except all the donuts were terrible. I decided to try this. I may need some practice making the dough, Although the donuts were absolutley wonderful they looked like some alien food group. Consistancey using the recipes provided was the problem and im sure it was something i did wrong because they tasted wonderful.Major problem is this item is very poorly constructed and very flimsy and the handle part kept popping out while I was using it. Im not going to say don't buy this becuase with the recipes provided are wonderful and it might be I simple need practice in makeing the dough. I really wish it was made with better material, If it were it would be perfeft

Mediocrity in a lightweight package
This was a very disappointing purchase. Based on the 4± star reviews, I had much higher hope for this donut maker than it delivered. My batch of donuts was fried using a digital thermometer to verify temperature according to the recipe in the instruction manual.Donuts were VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY uneven. No amount of adjusting seemed to help balance the donut ring. One side was ALWAYS very thin, one side was always very fat. The dropper makes uneven donuts. If you waited for the fat side to cook all the way through, the thin side burned. If you took it out before the thin side burned, the fat side had raw batter inside. This was a profoundly disappointing exercise in donut making for National Donut Day.I wanted a way to fry cake based donuts because oven-baked donuts are just sadness. This was somehow worse. Very disappointing.

works, but...
It works, but consistency is so critical. Small size makes it hard to fill and as the amount in container decreases, it is harder to dispense batter due to lack of down pressure. Cleaning is not bad but small parts need to be handled carefully. Probably ok for price.

What a fun little gadget
First try and it was a success. I did the Old Fashioned doughnut recipe (cut in half) from the booklet.Mixed it in measuring cup with a spout for easier transfer to the donut maker = minimal mess. I weighed my ingredients and aimed for pancake batter consistency.Oil the inside of the maker as instructed to help the dough/ batter flow.It took me two tries to figure out the drop speed. I used chopsticks to adjust the shape and to turn them. They are bit awkward shapes but the kids approved!!!Can’t wait to try other recipes!!!

Cons Outweigh Pros
I like kitchen tools and recently became interested in making doughnuts at home. I thought I would give this affordable doughnut maker a try.The construction of this dispenser is very lightweight – aluminum and plastic. It seems like it will work for very occasional use, but I don’t think it could stand up to frequent use. Overall, I think this tool is more trouble than it is worth. The hopper that holds the batter is quite small and if you use it for pancakes you will have to constantly refill it. This doesn’t seem worth the trouble considering the cleanup. It did produce doughnut like shapes, but they were not uniform. I tried the recipe for old fashioned doughnuts that came with the dispenser and it was completely off. Even with tweaking the recipe so it could pass through the dispenser, the results were not doughnut like at all. I would recommend skipping the included recipes all together.I am afraid this little gadget is destined to either sit on the pantry shelf or wind up in a garage sale.
