AQUALOG: Polypterus - Bichirs (English and German Edition)

This is the only book I've found specifically on Polypterus (Bichirs). The book mostly consists of high quality pictures of the various species but there is a section in the front with some descriptions and information on aquarium care. It's not really a comprehensive book however. It doesn't really have a lot of information that you can't get from other sources. Information on care and feeding can readily be found on the internet and in any case bichirs are so tough they need minimal care compared to most aquarium fish. Also the layout of the book isn't that good. I would have rather seen the text and pictures for each species placed together. Still for someone like me (see my Amazon username :-P) it's a must have. If you aren't really into Polypterus you can skip it however. It looks like the author is German and all the text is in German with English translations.

Great deal on book -- but the very very slow shipping that they didn't tell me about was not so great. I almost cancelled my order but it was too late -- and the book took weeks to be delivered. When you are used to 2 day PRIME, this was terrible. It almost didn't make it in time for Christmas. I ordered it on November 20 and it made it to me three weeks -- I was so worried it wouldn't make it in time for our trip to visit our family fish lover! I would order from them again, but I think I'd contact the seller first to be sure it would make it in time.

The definitive resource on these wonderful creatures. Schäfer's introductory notes cover a gamut of hard-to-find, fully cited info, and the photos are beautiful and quite useful for sexing, identifying subspecies, etc.If you have any interest in these magnificent creatures, buy this book and treasure it.

If you are into Bichirs than this is the book for you. Well written with excellent photos. Highly recommended.

No issues, good book.

well this is a good book it is more of a text book than a fish aquarium book has good info nice pictures but I think the price is high but like I said it is a like a collage text book. but the info now is outdated. and some enacurate facts but a B book.

All of the Aqualog books are excellent value, although they are not particularly cheap. They are full to the brim with first class colour photographs and to reproduce these in a book is an expensive process. Whether they are about many of the different beautiful fishes now coming into the aquarist trade or in this case specifically the Polypterus species of fishes many of which are among the most beautiful fishes. They are first class for identifying that fish that you have had for some time, but have not been able to put a name to.This is a really beautiful book with some stunning photographs. These unusual fishes are not everyone's cup of tea, but many people do find them attractive and if you are one of those people this book is a must for you.

Even though I love this fish, this book doesn't have enough for the price. If you just want to have the aqualog collection, then by all means add it. Unlike some other books it tells you enough info about the fish to make identifications and keep good care.

Das Buch ist keine 5 € Wert! Hab es für einen Aquarianer bestellt der mehr Fachwissen vermitteln kann wie dieses Buch. Lediglich viele Fotos und seitenweise Hinweise auf Fachquellen aber null Beschreibung über die Lebensweise etc der Flösselhechte.

Kann ich nur empfehlen
