Hack/Slash Omnibus, Vol. 1

I came back to comics after quite a few years away, decided to try this out because of the glowing reviews here on Amazon. I enjoy horror comics and figured, at the very least, it should be entertaining if the reviews were even half correct. Well, they are completely on the money and I am thankful the reviewers took the time to help turn me onto this incredible story. As they have already so eloquently stated, this is more than just a horror comic, it's exciting, funny and the characters are quick to become a staple in your reading and entertainment life.I will review the product, as other reviewers have done such a great job going over the story. First, publishers take note, this is what an Omnibus is meant to be! Check out the page count and you can see this is a big book and an excellent starting point. (Let me just add by the time I finished Girls Gone Dead, I was in love with this and ordered Omnibus 2) This is laugh out loud pure joy comicdom.Here are the extras, and finally (again publishers reading? take note!) they are actually EXTRAS and not just a few pages tacked on at the end:Alternate covers (this is a staple extra) but here it is more than just two pages, I sat and looked over these and loved them. As mentioned, the art is not consistent, different artists have different views, some are bloody awesome, some are hilarious and some are just weird. I appreciate them all.After the cover gallery you are treated to some sketches by the creator, how Cassie and Vlad were first envisioned, also some sketches of some villains that didn't make it into some story arcs (yet, the creator mentions) He makes post-it notes on his original designs and talks a bit about them and their changes. You also get to sees pictures of the real young woman (Sandra Kammerer) that he based his first sketches of Cassie on, and a write-up on the play that was rolled out based on the comic.Then you have the Psychofiles, I loved these. They are pictures of the slashers, their origins, powers, method of death are all here and some post-it notes written by Cassie about her encounters with them (great stuff, really funny) Example of a Cassie post-it on the Slasher we are all familiar with Chucky: "I'll spend the rest of my life watching my back..or..well...the back of my calves."This comic is for adults (I think that is fairly obvious but just in case!) and it is just a helluva lot of fun. Great art, great story, awesome characters and laugh out loud moments. You'll want to revisit it.

There is not enough that i can say about this book. Hack/slash has a place in my heart i normally only reserve for chocolate and comfort foods. I found it amazing that the caracters really have a lot of depth to them, and you get pleasantly attached. Not to mention the plot line is always fierce and never lets you down. it always starts at adrenaline-filled action and suspense...and you get pretty funny jokes just about everywhere a long the way.The artists are awesome, they give Cassie such expression and such unique looks its absolutely genius..... and i loved the storyline with Evil Eddie...it was very philosphical...so that rocked my world. Theres nothing better than a powerful anti-heroine type...they take on the roll but dont exactly have super powers...and they have a past just like you full of tough times fitting in at school ...or your mom being a zombie lunchlady that poisons kids and kills them...its all very relatable hahaAnd its pretty long so you definitely feel very satisfied by the end of it. The only thing i didnt like was that i really wish that who ever drew and colored the first story that the book starts off with had done the entire book. The other artists are okay but i really loved whomever the book started off with.

Just like the horror movies it lampoons, this series is cheap, flashy, and strangely addictive. (Note: I actually ended up purchasing this a few years after I initially read it back in 2011, as it stuck in my head for that long.) This comic aims hard for the lowest common denominator and for the most part it hits it. Sometimes it's better, sometimes it's worse, but I really enjoyed this comic as a guilty pleasure read. You could probably do a lot better than this comic, but then I don't think Seeley was really aiming for a comic that would make you think.What really kept this from being as good as it could have been was that it assumed a lot of things. It assumed that not only would the reader be aware of all of the horror cliches (not an unreasonable assumption) but that they'd also be aware of people within the industry. At one point we see a storyline involving several comic book people and not many of them are really all that famous outside their particular circle or group of fans. As a casual reader I didn't really recognize most of them and I just didn't really get the connection that someone else might and it really kept me from getting into the comic as much as I'd have liked during these chapters.It's still fun and still worth checking out, but for many this will be a library read even if they're a big horror movie fanatic. For others, this will be something that will be a necessity on their shelves. Only after reading it will you be able to tell which one you are.

I just recently discovered the glory that is Hack/Slash while perusing the back issue section at Comics n' Stuff in Carlsbad CA, when I came across Hack/Slash Annual number three which is a fantastic read for any horror comic fan. So after reading annual three immediately after purchasing it, I had to have more so I got on amazon and ordered Hack/Slash Omnibus one and danced like a maniac when it showed up at my door.Omnibus One collects the early stories of Cassie and Vlad's slasher hunts, unfortunately it does not include the stories from Hack/Slash: My First Maniac, but it does cover the key points in Cassies and Vlad's back stories which was fine with me I'll get My First Maniac with Omnibus Two. Hack/Slash follows the altra sexy outsider Cassie and her simple minded hulking companion Vlad as they mercilessly hunt down and destroy every Slasher they can find. This horror comedy has everything you ever wanted from a slasher flick and none of the garbage that always made slasher movies terrible, I seriously love this series and would not change a thing about it and I cant wait to read more. Pega os clichês do gênero e brinca com eles de forma descontraída. Não espere grandes tramas ou algo genial. Diversão descontraída.

Great read, not for children

I am struggling to finish this one. Lots of different artists have contributed - some AMAZING, and some not so good. A couple of the stories are really well done... and the rest are sadly a let down. My main problem is that our main character isn't consistent. And I have to say... that's not how female bodies work (in some of the stories her chest size changes dramatically) and they don't think like that... so yeah. Maybe written and illustrated by mostly men?
