Seafoods Bacalhau Bacalao Dry Salted Cod Pieces, No Bone No Skin

I’m travel nursing in Arkansas and can’t find salted cod or even pollock anywhere only the fresh ones. So I came on Amazon and ordered this brand to make ackee n saltfish & callaloo n saltfish! So far I made ackee & saltfish with this and it came out very good. The reason I give them three stars is the price. I could buy this same amount of saltfish from a Korean store or fish market for 1/3 the price in NYC.

I imagine almost everyone who buys this product has some background knowledge of its use in cooking and how to prepare dishes made from it. I bought a pound for camping food on wilderness canoe trips and I'm not disappointed. I intend to make a nice finnan haddy from it. I did think the moisture content of the fish might be a little high for long term storage so I microwaved it for 30 seconds to get it hot and then placed it in my food dehydrator( you could also use an regular oven on very low heat. this dries the fish out more and preserves it better particularly at room temperature . Either way before cooking the fish has to be soaked in water first to dissipate the salt and soften it up a bit. If the fish is kept in the fridge until use it probably does not need further dehydrating. Extended storage at room temperatures however are going to require the procedure I performed or something similar to reduce the possibility of spoilage..

I just pulled out 10 worms from this one piece of fish. When I first bought this, I immediately froze the fish for another day. Its been a few months, so I removed it from the freezer and soaked it in cold water overnight with the lid on. When I took it out today, It's full of worms and im really grossed out. I cant believe they would send me a piece of fish like this.

I love the packaging it comes in cause the stickers are cute and the candy is adorable. The fish itself is excellent for making ackee and saltfish. This is my second time ordering from here and as long as I have access to ackee, this will always be my saltfish supplier. Got the package in 3 days this time!

I made a "Bacalhau a Gomes de Sa" recipe with this, and it was it so delicious! I love that it has no bones, and doesn't smell up the house! I only soaked in milk before cooking to remove any excess salt. It was in the fridge for months before I used it, all good. I highly recommend it!

We ordered this in Dec.2015. Used the first package in about 3 months after and used the second one just this week. Both cooked out fine. We are very experienced with salted code and found this as good as any we have obtained. Not too salty and with no bones. Rinsed out easily and cooked up nicely in Portuguese recipes.We are going to order more as it is convenient to keep around. Hint, keep it in a plastic ziplock in the refrigerator and it will probably last forever.

Well, I ordered the salted bacalao and it arrived nicely packaged with some extra goodies which was quite sweet. I liked the way that the cod was preserved and processed - meaning that it was not as dry as some other salted cod on the market - it was very moist and tasted very delicious and meaty in my special Caribbean cuisine. Unfortunately, I held back a 'one-star' only because it was not completely boneless because there were some fine bones in the strips of fish. I would definitely order again and would recommend this to anyone who is thinking of cooking 'ackee and saltfish.' The bacalao has a better flavor with the ackee than the typical over processed cod. I purchased this back in Decr 2016 but it was only 2 bags just to sample. The salt fish was very good and easy to clean and cook. I made salt-fish and Johnny Cakes/Floats and then ordered 6 bags a few days after in Jan 2016. I will order again, its worth it. Just wish shipping to APO AE (military overseas locations) didn't take so long. I had to order send to stateside address and have relatives forward it to me but regardless of this everything else was good.
