Utilitarian
Time Waits For No Slave could possibly be one of the band's greatest albums, at least in my mind in recent years. Napalmhas been a force to be reckon with since I nearly wrote them off back in 2000 with Enemy of the music business...Most of the direction since then has been more and more toward what Napalm is known for: Politically aware, socially conscious fast paced visceral grind with hints of hardcore punk, death metal and on the fringes of experimental music. SinceNapalm inception on Scum - and the demos before that- there was also a need to exploit noisier but no less extreme soundsthat of Swans...Utilitarian is somewhat of a breakthrough in terms of what it's actually is accomplishing sonically, even if it's somewhat of'head scratcher' listening to the album. I must admit I wasn't completely sold on this album upon purchasing it. There's a lot of fringe-y aspects like Barney's new found desire to sing cleanly over any part regardless if it's blasting or in a mid-tempopace. "The Wolf I Feed" being a perfect example of this. However- this track a long with a lot of the other weirder digressionsthis album takes works well live. So I suppose this is why I was hesitant to review this to potential onlookers. Most ofthis record however, is pretty much in the vain of the last album- with a bit more of the experimentation. Some may beput off by the experimentation- but that's perfectly okay with me.Not one of my favorite of this band's releases, but it's not too shabby either...

Art, death and the working class.
It's not exactly news to long-time Napalm Death followers that the band is one of the rare and blessed few metal acts to not only go with strength into their fourth decade but also to find new ideas and approaches that work within their time-tested framework. If I may, they're the Killing Joke of the grindcore scene or whatever genre you use to describe them to the uninitiated. To me, this is a fine hour of many for the band! On every track, their trademark fearlessness is front and center and, unlike many metal albums to have been relased in the last decade, the production varies enough between pieces to allow for different moods to exist without sacrificing any power or pulse on the heaviest of heavy to be found on Utilitarian. Truth be told, I'm always a sucker for a band/artist that has longevity but also really begins to blossom in their late forties-early fifties, proving that youth is just youth when wisdom prevails. Napalm Death sound wiser and grittier than ever, compiling good ideas from previous albums into where they are now, improving upon them in most cases, having a bold and furious go of it in all. Just when I thought they couldn't improve upon Time Waits For No Slave, they prove me wrong yet again!

Napalm Deaths Utilitarian Something New And Old
I know some peoples reviews are harsh to say the least so just hear me out. This shows how Napalm can experiment and still Brutally Grind like no other.I love how Napalm, thinks outside the box this is what makes them different then your typical grindcore. From Scum To Harmony Corruption Order Of The Leech and this new opus Utilitarian. They still have it even after the split with Jesse Pintado RIP.They still tribute Jesse in their music his style is always heard.Napalm Death in my opinion are the true meaning of Grindcore along with Brutal Truth always doing some strange new approach. The Saxophone squeels are crazy it did take me by surprise a little.Errors In The Signals Protection Racket Quarantined Collision Course Orders Of Magnitude Think Tank Trials Leper Colony are fast Napalm tracks.Leper Colony and Nom De Guerre are two of my favorites. There is nothing wrong with this new release at all its Napalm Death they are suppose to give us unpredictable crazy mindsnare music.Dont expect them to do the same stuff over and over again on every release like some Grindcore bands do like Phobia.Napalm Death are a one of a kind band that has influenced so many bands out there today. Some people should just appreciate the fact that they have set the bar that no other bands will ever reach or never achieve.

Great addition
This was a great addition to the Napalm Death library. Your talking to a guy who owns all their albums plus some eps and a live album plus a compilation.Napalm Death the originaters of Grindcore and still keeping up with that standard while keeping their sound fresh.

Still on form
I've loved pretty much all of Napalms albums since Enemy Of The Music Business heralded a return to their grind punk roots.Again this is a mixture of pure aggression and progression. The insane sax of Everyday Pox just punks things up in a crazy way that works brilliantly and a more prominant role for the voice of guitarist adds a hardcore punk slant to a couple of the tracks The Wolf I Feed for one). But don't worry, this album is still blindingly heavy. The black and white booklet harks back to the days of Crass and punk too through its mixture of political lyrics and provocative artwork - something Napalm have always done well.Something else they've always done well is to somehow make grindcore songs catchy and memorable - and, they do it again perfectly here. And the military-style bark that introduces Blank Look About Face is utterly brilliant.Triumphant proof that Napalm are still relevant.

Napalm Death is dead?!...
...Of course not.

Titanesque !!!!
