Fishing Tandem Flies: Tactics, Techniques, and Rigs to Catch More Trout

Author gave numerous exams of various techniques for fishing multiple fly combinations and explained the benefits of each. He also explained pitfalls and explained how to overcome them. He included excellent discussion on various knots their benefits limitations and how they can be easily tied. I also enjoyed his discussion on his favorite flies and his simplistic approach to tying them. He seemed focused on tying flies that catch fish instead of tying complicated flies that seem more suitable for framing in exhibits.

I have rarely used tandem flies either fly or spin casting since the buggers (literally) get tangled up. A lot. Usually there would need to be a very heavy weighted fly or sinker on the bottom and the second leader, usually is not adjustable and rarely long enough. But that's just me.Meck's book shows the real skinny about the type of flies to use, how to attach them and techniques that work best. I'm not saying I don't catch fish with my own tandem flies it's just that his way is better. A lot better. This is a great book to show you how to sepnd more time catching fish than untangling fishing lines/leaders. I will also be using this ice fishing here in Colorado.

The book is small in size but huge in content.I've read for years about fishing a dropper fly or dropper flies. I've tried to concoct my own version of dropper flies based on bait rigs I've made for salt water. Bad design, terrible casting leading to dismal fish results. I knew there had to be more options than adding an additional leader tied to the first fly's hook or eye and that doesn't seriously weaken the leader.Charles Meck lists far more multiple fly rigs than I thought were possible; he explains how each rig functions to present the flies properly and details the rig adjustments you can make to better meet conditions. Great stuff!

I found this book to be very informative on different ways to rig up more than one fly when fishing. The section on knots was helpful. Also liked the fly patterns described towards the back of the book. After reading this book I am not sure if I will ever fish with one fly again.

I picked up a lot of helpful tips on fishing tandem flies – the special knots to use, and where, when and how to fish them. I found the fly-tying sections both simple and superfluous.

This little book by well-known fly fishing author Charles Meck is sharply focused on rigging and fishing a variety of tandem fly combinations (that's more than one fly on your leader) for trout. He covers the various knots used and recommends favorite patterns for both dry fly "indicators" and subsurface nymphs and streamers. This book doesn't take long to read and you can get out on the stream and try it for yourself.

Well written and informative, this gives me a new perspective and I'm always ready to learn something new; if this helps me hook just one more fish each time I go out it will have more than made up for my "investment".

Excellent rating of 10, Probably one of the very best technical fly fishing publications I've seen for a specific subject.Charles Meck really nails it his perspective of a lesser known method for trout fishing of both streams and stillwater.Much of his methods can also be applied to warmwater and saltwater fly fishing to enhance success.

THIS IS A GREAT BOOK FOR FLY FISHERMEN AND WOMEN WHO WANT TO EXPAND THEIR FLY FISHING SKILLS.THERE ARE MANY TECHNIQUES WHICH ARE EASILY UNDERSTOOD AND APPLICABLE ON STREAM. I WILL TRY MANY OF THEM ON MY HOME WATERS-THE BOW RIVER IN CALGARY

It does a great job of verbal education. Would have given it a 5 if the pics were in colour.
