Of Dogs and Walls (Penguin Modern)

Touching
This book splices together two stories. They're not connected at all, except by sharing a melancholic sentimentality. I really loved them. The translator did an absolutely lovely job of it; the writing is crisp and clear, and it is the effect that is blurred and penumbral. If you love dogs so that the outset of the story provokes outrage, soldier through that. It's redeemed by the end.

Amazing
I really liked the book and how it came but the smell of the book was the only thing I disliked.

Lovely stories, Tiny book
Yuko Tsushima's writing is truly beautiful; a mixture of despair and desire. Her two stories were a pleasure to read. The book was a lot smaller than anticipated, as it measures about 6.5 inches in length.

This is just... Beautiful...
Delicate, charming, sad, touching. I loved these two stories. The swap between mother and daughter narration in the first story; the sadness and joy mixed together, the different memories of the same time, the awful sadness of this fear each had of and for the other. This was lovely. The second story, again from a daughters point of view, again about time an change and the memory of a damaged sibling and the tricks that memory plays. Ad just a touch of magic about a dog, and again - touching and beautifully moving.

Great collection!
I loved the stories. Though, it's not for everyone. The stories are whimsical and have a non-linear narration.
