Timeless
This is one of my favorite books from childhood. It's one I frequently give to children, as it's one they usually don't have and that doesn't fail to delight. Nothing sweeter than a child's giggle!

There's a reason why you've never heard of "Circus Caps for Sale"
I know why you're here: you love "Caps for Sale". I know this because because, like you, I love "Caps for Sale" too. I enjoyed it as a child and now it's become my favorite book to read to my toddler. Also like you, I wondered if there were any other stories concerning our hapless peddler by the same author that we might enjoy together. As it turns out, there are! Unfortunately, they're not... good. No doubt about it, Esphyr really captured lightning in a bottle with the original "Caps for Sale". However, this book has a much different tone and lacks any of the charm of its predecessor. It's overlong, somewhat nonsensical and actually quite boring (I can barely get through it, much less an 18-month old), but its greatest failing is that the peddler we know and love really plays only a very minor role in the whole affair. For example, there is a stretch of 14 straight pages where he doesn't even make an appearance. FOURTEEN PAGES. IN A CHILDREN'S BOOK. Trust me, it's a tough read -especially if you're not particularly fond of the circus. The art is cool though; I'll give it that. The original "Caps for Sale" is an unmitigated classic and if you love it, I have a feeling you're going to find this book to be a big disappointment in comparison. So, I guess now we know why we'd never heard of it.

My favorite story book as a child is now my granddaughter’s favorite book, too!
This is a terrific little story. It was 50+ years ago, and it still is today. What was once my favorite story book as a ‘Little’ is now my granddaughter’s favorite book, too. My three year old granddaughter likes to wear a blue beret while pouring over the pages. Simply delightful! There are a series of books about the peddler and his caps. Each an engaging story with marvelous illustrations.

Fun sequel!
I had no idea there were more books in the series, but this was a delightful surprise. I grew up reading "Caps for Sale" and now it's one of my daughter's favorites. I can't wait to share this book with her. The careful peddler is foiled in his attempts to sell his wares because of the circus parade and one pesky elephant who causes all of his caps to become part of the act.

Sweet! Sweet! Sweet! Flippin sweat! Yeah! I love this. This is a good thing and I like it. It's almost as cool as the first time I saw the cat use the toilet! It's that good. Really! Yeah!!!

What is better than a circus and caps? Not much!
This story is a great sequel to the Caps for Sale book of my childhood. My two year old grandson is a huge fan of all things hats and caps. This book was a "read it again" 3-4 times the first night we had it.

I have always enjoyed reading CAPS FOR SALE to my art students to inspire them to do their own illustrations. After I read the story and they finish their own designs, I then show them the book illustrations. This Circus-themed story was just the perfect book to add to my collections for the study of THE CIRCUS.
