In the Beginning: Moral Tails in an Immoral World (Maurice's Valises) Hardcover – September 3, 2013

I loved this book. The story is charming and the illustrations are the perfect accompaniment. It's easy to understand why the Maurice's Valises books were awarded the Gold designation by Moonbeam Children's Book Awards for 2013 for a best picture book series. We're looking forward to more in this series.

Yes, Mr. Beatrice's illustrations are lovely and this is the reason I decided to buy this book. But there is a reason there is no 'look inside' possibility for this book, since the illustrations are so few. I purchased blindly online and if I knew, I would not be buying the book at all. The story is well-known from Aesop (you believe the liar twice, ignore him the third time) but the text alone feels empty. It is written in big letters, addressed to young children, but without pictures it's not enough to keep interest.And the muse instructing the mouse on the beginning reminded me too much of other similar children series.Not good. Pity because it was quite expensive too...

These charming books are fun for both parent and child. There is a moral to be learned in each tale as well as an engaging story. The illustrations greatly enhance the stories. Wonderful!!

My kids love to hear these books and I love to read them to them. What more could a parent ask for, a moral lesson, a great story and gorgeous illustrations!
