Worked like a charm on my Mercury 50 HP
Was ridiculously easy to change, took ten minutes, and my Mercury Bigfoot 4-stroke EFI 50 Hp 2005 50ELPTEFI engine started on the first try, after being dead in the water with a dead starter motor! Pleased as punch so far!

Faulty from the start
Nut spun off starter on about the 5th start. It is not a lock nut. The method used to keep it from doing this is they "punch" the shaft and nut to crimp the threads. They should have used this method in conjunction with a nylon locking nut and/or at least putting some locktite on the nut. I'll have to fix their shortcut in manufacturing assuming I can find a replacement nut with the right thread count. Customer service responded quickly but could not tell me the thread count. Leads me to believe they are not the manufacturer of the product.

Mercury 50 HP starter
Product installed like OEM. Everything lined up perfectly. Functions like original. Dealer quoted me $800 for OEM. While time will tell was hard to see any difference between this starter and original. I am not a mechanic but this is definitely a simple DIY project
