Interesting Read.
This is a worthwhile read, although Edward Abbey packs his sentences with too many adverbs and adjectives, as if to prove his command of the English language exceeds that of the greatest writers. One example, the combined use of the words hyperbola and parabolic to describe the trajectory of an object. The book could have been written in a more economical prose (probably 100 pages less) without losing any of the important message. But since Abbey is dead, this rewrite is not likely to happen. The characters and plot are absorbing. While this appeals to the more militant minded environmentalists, it probably turns off readers who feel the appropriate approach to handling environmental matters is through legislation and the courts. However, a book based on following the law would be a boring read in comparison.

all had his mindset this would be a waaaaaaaay better country.
Bought this book for my boyfriend who absolutely loves Edward Abbey. I bet he's read this book at least twenty times! Edward Abbey is a man on a mission! If we, as Americans, all had his mindset this would be a waaaaaaaay better country.

have to read....
Paul abbey focused on the death of nature in this book. Normally we use wrench for adjusting certain things. Here in this novel the protagonists tried to adjust the government which is the cause of nature's death. The important thing we have to note in this novel is the main (four) characters are very sensitive towards their environmental world. They need not any one to initiate to save the environmental chain, instead of that they themselves became the initiators of their gang. They followed Walt whitman's "resist much obey little". It is good about what is going inside our natural world. This was written in 1950's but the content in that book is predicted.
