better than clippers
since I have a similar nail file that I use on me, I thought I would try something similar for my Daisy. I was not disappointed… so much easier than clipping … if her nails were all white, I probably never would have discovered this. but, since her nails are not all white, this is perfect … no more worries about cutting her nails too short and having blood all over the place. she is much more receptive to this … eliminates the nerve-racking hassle to both of us … highly recommend.

Highly recommend for skittish dogs
I have a chihuahua who hates getting her nails clipped, so I thought I would try a file of some sort. The electronic files was my first thought, but I know two people who tried those on their dogs and said that they were terrified of them. So I did some research and found these files. I have had this file for about three days and my dog does not seem to mind it too much. She is still getting used to it, but she is doing much better than trying to clip them with the clippers. I’ve been just doing one nail at a time a then letting her rest for awhile and then try another nail. Giving treats after each nail to train her to accept it. So far I’ve gotten all of one paw and one nail on a second paw done. And her nails look 100% better than they did before. Plus she isn’t struggling to get away near as much as she does with clippers. It is taking more time than with clippers, but I don’t mind the extra time as long as her nails are taken care of. I would have given 5 stars, but I am still in the process of getting my dog used to it, but so far it is working just as I was hoping. Another plus is that her nails aren’t jagged after filing, like they can be after a clipping. No snags and no harsh scratches when she paws at me after I file her nails. Highly recommend this for anyone who has a clipper shy dog. You just have to have some patience and do some training/conditioning to get them used to it.

I love this thing!
Omg I love this! Now before I start I want to start with the fact that the majority of dogs need training to introduce a new tool, no matter how similar to other tools you can't expect most dogs to accept it with out some work. Ok so I got that out of the way.Anyway me and Layla have been using a wood file because her nail were too thick for much else, also her black nails make it hard to clip without knicking the quick. So I bought this on a whim hoping for something better. And Tada no more close calls with the quick, I clip what I know and file the rest. The glass files down quickly without hurting anything, I even get my fingers on there a lot and have yet to do so much as scrape myself. After our training sessions with it she tolerates it (never a fan of grooming but definitely a fan of hot dogs) but she accepts it a lot better than the wood file for sure. Occasionally I get an angle that causes a weird vibration/ friction, and of course she reacts, something weird just happened. But all in all it's a much better experience then nail clippers alone or that horrible wood file. And this thing is well made too. Two sides of different textures (rough and fine), extremely thick and durable, easy to hold onto without being too bulky, and the best part is it's washable, dishwasher if I wanted to but really all it needs is a rinse and your back in business. Now just one more quick note, I've seen a couple of reviews that marked this poorly because the dog reacted poorly or wouldn't tolerate it. That's unfair to both the company selling this and dog owners looking for good tools, not to mention the dog who would get an improved grooming experience. My dog didn't start out able to handle any nail tools at all, in fact the previous owners had to take her to the vet to have her sedated every time. When I got her they even offered to pay for one last nail clipping at their vet or mine. I declined, and it took about a month or two to train her to tolerate nail clippings. It was a lot of work, I had to enlist help some times (impossible to handle treats grooming tools and a clicker all at once). But my point is that had I started with this rather than stumble on it later, my dog would have reacted a lot like the descriptions I've been seeing, cringed away from it, pull away and not tolerate it. But it wasn't a matter of it being a poor tool but of the dog needing help accepting it. Layla went through training for the glass file quickly because she'd already endured a wood file so this was a breeze. So in case you didn't catch on I love this thing 👍

Looks cool, but very gritty so it hardly works.
Idk how this nail file is supposed to really work, it's got way too much grit on it. There are two sides to it, but both don't really work how others do. I have a corgi, and it's very hard to do his smaller nails. Maybe for bigger dogs it works better on them? I'm going to continue to use it, maybe there is a technique to using these. I do like the way it looks though, my son thought it was a gem or something so he always wants to hold it.

Great for dogs scared of nail trims
My dog isn’t scared of it!! So I have a dog that is terrified of nail trims. Even the vet’s office has a hard time! His quick was clipped a couple of times and now no one can get near his feet. I’m trying to warm him up to grinding instead but even the quiet grinder I have scares him. I bought this out of desperation and to get him used to the feel of the roughness across his nail. First few days I just let him smell it and treated him with cookies. I would run it along one nail, then praise and treat again...we had a breakthrough today. He was laying calmly and I sat down with him when he rolled over for a belly rub. While laying on his back between by legs, I ran the file over one nail a few times then rubbed his belly. We continued like this for about ten minutes. Afterwords treats were given! It’s a slow process, but at least it’s a start. I’m hoping to work up to the grinder eventually but for now, super happy with our progress! At one point he was laying calmly while I filed away at his nails! If I do this every day, I will get them back to where they need to be in length and a bonus is that they are smooth, not jagged or ripped.

First time filing dogs nails
I didnt see my pup's nails get shorter after filing them for 1minute and sounded very rough on his nails honestly. It slipped out of the pocket holder it comes with and shattered on the floor. It was maybe 1.5ft high off the ground so shattered pretty easily. this file is super large so might work better for a bigger dog. What i did like is that there are 2 sides, rough and smooth so that was cool.
