So, within a week or so of posting my first review, I was very pleasantly surprised to receive a package with extra padding for the hip area and a very friendly and professional letter from the owner himself. I put in the extra padding, and it works GREAT! I feel much more protected and confident in my skating! I am truly amazed at the customer service. Never have I experienced this! It's obvious the culture of this company is rooted in making a real difference in the lives of their customers. This company will go a very long way with such high values! I bought these because I refuse to experience the unreal pain of busting my butt on the concrete ground anymore than I need to at my age. Okay, so I was really looking forward to these considering the great reviews and how well made they looked. My first impression upon opening is they are made really well. Not cheap material at all. Top notch. I tried them on (I am 250 lbs, 42/44 waist. I bought the XXL) they fit GREAT. Snug and comfortable. Perfect. Very comfortable materials. I tested them a bit on the floor of my apartment. I tried falling on my hip and butt both with and without the pads to do a comparison. The most difference I feel is in the tailbone area, but the hip area is not really that different. I'm only guessing that this is possibly because I am female and have wider hips so the padding there might have to be increased there but the main area I bought these for (my tailbone) is indeed protected. I can feel the difference. Honestly, I need to test these in a real world situation so I will be back to do another review after a skatepark session. So far, they feel amazing and the tailbone padding is phenomenal.

Best padded shorts i've found snowboarding.
What I like about these shorts is that you can customize them by removing or adding some of the pads. I used them exclusively for snowboarding as my kids are having me do park terrain features. Won't ride without them. Make sure you take these shorts with you if you are buying new snowboard pants. The take up some room but well worth it if you get a little adventurous on the slopes.

I’m picking up skateboarding again with my kids after being off a board for 20 years. These fit under my pants and have saved my hip joints a few times already.

Maybe just try Padded bike shorts Quite hot and uncomfortable
Pretty bulky. I’ve tried a few times and never quite feel comfortable with these on. Wish I could return them

Worth the price for all over protection
Bought these for my boyfriend who plays hockey. He loves them! These shorts have padding in exactly the right places, especially on the hips and bum. He tried an less expensive pair first but found they lacked enough coverage and padding where needed it. Tortoise Pads were more expensive but well worth it!

Outstanding distribution of padding
Good fit. Very well designed. Superior to a different brand I purchased awhile back. Quality and distribution of the padding leaves nothing more to be desired. Well worth the cost.
