The Cecropias that were used for medicinal purposes by the natives from Mexico to northeastern Argentina, continue to be a remedy commonly used in folk medicine, both in the guarani region and in the Rio de la Plata region, especially in catarrhal affections of the respiratory tract. Leaves contains ambaína, ambainina, cecropin and cecropinina.
