Stumpwork Dragonflies

I adore Dragonflies. They are elegent, delicate, jewelry-like beings that sail over quiet ponds and flower beds. Jane Nicholas shows a way to create 3-D Dragonflies, in a variety of threads, etc., and place as lovely accents in your embroidered, crosstitch, tapestry, quilted, and silk flower gardens. Step-by-step, try making at least one and you will be making more of these gems. I loved making a delicate Dragonfly as a brooch for a charity auction.

These are nice, portable , but thorough books that I take with me to the coffee shop and to the yarn store — without throwing my back out.

Jane's instructions are clear and easy to follow. So many choices to stitch!! Great addition to her other beautiful books.

Fantastic work and even though I will never make a stumpwork dragonfly, I enjoy looking and reading about these.

Das reich bebilderte Buch zeigt zahlreiche gestickte Libellen in verschiedenen Techniken. Zu jedem Bild gibt es kurze Informationen (keine Anleitung) zur Herstellung. Im zweiten Teil des Buches erklärt die Autorin, wie man selbst Libellen in Stumpwork sticken kann. Es gibt wenig Bilder und viel Text. Dafür benötigt man gute Englischkenntnisse. Zum Schluss kann man selbst im Rahmen von drei Projekten Libellen in Stumpwork sticken. Das benötigte Material (Stoff, Garne, Nadel, etc.) ist ausführlich beschrieben. Zusätzlich gibt es eine Zeichnung des Modells. Das Sticken selbst wird mit einem langen Text und wenig Zeichnungen erklärt. Offenbar sind die benutzten Stiche am Ende des Buches kurz beschrieben. Dennoch ist dieses Buch für fortgeschrittene Stickerinnen mit guten Englisch-Kenntnissen.

トンボのたくさんのイメージがすばらしい！トンボしかありません。が、それを承知でこのすばらしい本を買ったのですから大満足です。一緒に甲虫のスタンプワークの本も購入しました。甲虫の本も、虫の種類が豊富にあって、実にステキですがこの本はトンボだけでこんなに美しくリアルな作品が作られていることに感動です。表紙は標本のようにまっすぐなトンボが並んでいますが本の中には横向きのトンボもいます。この本、見てるだけで幸せになれました。

Having attended a workshop on fabric box making where I used a material with a dragonfly pattern, I felt I needed to make some sort of decoration for its otherwise plain lid. Looked at lots of stumpwork books/patterns before I tripped over this one, so all I can say is that it is:Superbly and beautifully illustrated.Has clear and easily understood instructions.Must have been created out of love.It is sumptious and I pored over it for days before deciding on the one I made for my box.Thank you Jane Nicholas - you are a needlewoman /teacher supremo. And a legend, of course.
