sorry, miserable
this is absolutely the WORST. i should return it but i've already had to return 3 items this month and have been an amazon member since 1998 and purchase a lot. this item shouldn't be even produced much less sold to people who trust amazon.that said, i will keep this sorry miserable supposed bow because i used to show dogs and the biggest problem was them all running to other rooms when i got that dreaded shrill "thing"out. you can't get enough sound with this bow to have anything shrill. ok, so i need new resin after having had to put the instrument in storage for 2 years but had my horsehair hairs not just split and wept my resin is still good for what few hairs i have left. and this bow forces me to play quietly until i practice some in my apartment, another issue with a shrill instrument. so i will muddle thru with this after i cut about a third of the strands off so the flat effect will fit centered for the notes and get a new ADJUSTABLE bow for when i get back to real music.be aware the strands are not adjustable but are glued into each end so you can't back off the tension when resting. also the bow is 14 1/2 inches long NOT 24. it really deserves NO stars.

Too loose
It definitely is capable of producing a richer and fuller tone than the cheapie synthetic bow that came with the psaltery, but the horsehair is so loose that it takes a lot of effort to make a sound, which is really frustrating. Probably not worth bothering with it, so I'll be looking for something better that I won't be wasting my money on.

A smaller psaltry bow!
I have a walnut and maple handmade Psaltry ordered from a well-known couple who have made old-fashioned instruments for years at the Tamarack Artisans Hall in West Virginia. So, I am used to the longer, handmade walnut bows with real horsehair strings! The Roosebeck bow was smaller and has white polyester strings that were not all tightened to the same tension that I was used to using. I suppose you can use scissors to cut-off loose strings??I tried-out the Roosebeck bow, but went back to the comfortable feeling of my handmade, longer bow.I returned the Roosebeck Bow to Amazon and had no problems getting a refund. The Roosebeck bow would be more suitable for beginnig psaltry players. Once you get used to an old-style walnut-bow's size and tone, it may be harder to switch over to factory produced bows. Other customers may enjoy this smaller bow. The price is of Roosebeck Bow is much lower of course than that of a handcrafted wooden and horsehair bow, so some people may want to try the small Roosebeck bow for that reason.

Best psaltry I’ve had
When my bow broke (my fault) I tried this one... as much as I liked my other bow, this one is far better. The number of hairs are greater (twice as many so twice the width ) and the resulting sound was amazing. (I know it wasn’t me that suddenly got better!) I also like the slightly greater height from hairs to bow in the middle: that geometry results in a louder sound while maintaining the haunting/lingering nature of the psaltry chords. Like it so much, buying another for insurance.

Horid string.
They have the string folded in half and glued at the ends...dumb! One thing I like is the nice finish on the wood and the size is perfect for my small hands. Too darn bad the bow is unusable with the crap string or I would love it. I'll have to send back!.

LOVE the Bow - Hate the packaging
Love this bow - it's perfect for what I want and the description and pics are spot on.Hate the packaging, or lack thereof, when they shipped it. It was enclosed in a plastic bag, wrapped in a bit of paper and thrown into a large box. The box got a bit crushed, which caused the taped seam to split open on the box. If the plastic bag had not got stuck to the packing tape on the seam, I suspect I would have received an empty box or a broken bow.

Had my psaltery with me, but not my bow
I moved recently and my psaltery bow had been packed with my hammered dulcimer hammers. I had meant to take that box with me when I moved, but it ended up with the movers and the movers took their sweet time i getting my belongings to me. So instead of NOT play, I bought this bow along with some rosin so I could go on and play. Nice bow, works well and was what I needed. Good price, too.

Not as advertised!
Well, it's cheaply made and not Walnut as advertised, I know wood. It had a sticker on it that says made in Pakistan. The strings are not mounted flat and have a twist at the top. It's horrible!
