The Sketchbook Project World Tour

The Sketchbook Project is a crowd-sourced library of sketchbooks from artists around the world. The project started in 2006 online. The public would sign up and for a fee they would receive a sketchbook and after filling it with sketches send it back to add to the collection. The physical sketchbooks are on display at the Brooklyn Art Library, and digital scans are also available on their website. At the time of this writing, the artist community has grown to 70,000. Wow!The Sketchbook Project World Tour is a 256-page paperback book that features a selection of sketchbook pages from the project.The artworks are grouped according to different continents. There are lots of styles to check out and in some ways this book feels like a journal. There are artists who draw things that happen in their daily life, some draw from imagination, others from observations, there are some doodles, realistic drawings, line sketches and many more. It's nice to see the creativity on display. There are also several artists who are featured with short interviews.The book could be useful as a source of inspiration and motivation.If you like journaling art, this is the book for you. I'm signing for the next one so this is very inspirational. Good examples of the art with some notes about the authors. Definitely recommend it.

Great birthday gift for an artist

The Sketchbook Project is a crowd sourced collection of sketchbooks from around the world. So far 70,000 artists have participated, purchased the sketchbook, filled it with their art and mailed it back to the Brooklyn Art Library. Scans are available on the website and the actual sketchbooks can be viewed at the library. Drawing is very popular right now and there seems to be an endless supply of books about drawing and journals available. The quality in many is sometimes inconsistent. In the Sketchbook Project the art is excellent. This may be so as artists are mailing an entire journal of their artwork to the Brooklyn Art Library. Artist’s journals are precious and this is such a generous act. The book is divided into sections by geography, which I find very interesting. The reader can get a sense of the cultural impact on the artist of their environment. This book is an inspiration for artists and non-artists alike.

The shipping was really fast, the book is nice however there are several parts on the cover where the foil is broken.

Si te gusta el art journal, pintar, dibujar... aquí tienes una gran fuente de inspiración. Me encanta echarle un ojo de vez en cuando.

Très jolie présentation, livre d'assez grand format (A4 env.) aux feuilles épaisses, joli papier, agréable à feuilleter. Patchwork d’œuvres d'artistes divers, classées par continent (Amérique du Nord, Asie, etc.). Variété à la fois intéressante et surprenante : on n'accroche pas forcément avec tous les styles, et il n'y a pas plusieurs croquis d'un même artiste, difficile donc de "creuser", si on aime bien un style plutôt qu'un autre. Egalement peu de commentaires sur les croquis, on ne sait donc pas trop à quel contexte le raccrocher, dans quel contexte a été fait le dessin, une petite anecdote aurait été bienvenue.

Great book, ideal for visual geeks and sketch fanatica. Nice texture, great ideas and insights form artists or amateurs. Super recommended

Interesting project and a good selection of sketchbooks pages

Ce livre présente des carnets d'artistes présenter par le "sketchbook project" à Brooklyn. Le principe est une bibliothèque réunissant des carnets d'artistes que les lecteurs peuvent feuilleter et lire sur place. Ce livre présente les carnets de plusieurs pays du monde entier avec de temps en temps une page qui présente un artiste en particulier.. C'est très beau et très inspirant. Dommage cependant que les pages choisies des carnets ne soient pas reproduites en plus grand format.

Inspiring for anyone who draws, doodles or paints

très beau livre, de grande taille pour son prixen le commandant je m'attendais an recevoir un petit livre mais finalement je suis agréablement surprisetrès intéressant, même si malheureusement je trouve qu'il n'y a pas assez de description et d'analyse des œuvres

Not impressed...

I bought this as a taster for other kinds of Art books I'm looking for. It's okay but very little in the way of writing just a lot of drawings and paintings from people around the world. I was hoping for at least a little bit on each drawing, some kind of footnote about the artists and every country, some denoted country but not all, Some are from children around the world and it would have been nice to read what each Artist felt about their submissions for the book, so slightly disappointed on the lack of written text.
