Linux in easy steps: Illustrated using Linux Mint

One of the Better Choices for Someone Starting Out
This is a low priced paper edition and it is an excellent choice when reading an e-book is not appropriate or convenient. This book covers getting started with Linux. Using the very popular Linux Mint 19 with the Cinnamon desktop to illustrate topics, it may be of less value to someone getting started with a different distro brand. It assumes the reader is moving from Windows (mainly Win 8 or Win 10) and emphases the similarities between Windows and the Cinnamon desktop. As such, it avoids discussing console operations, but since Linux still requires console commands to do some file operations or to find and install some apps, it saves the topic until the last 22 pages.

This book did the trick for me
This was the book that got me into Linux after many attempts to do so. I recommend it to anyone who is trying to enter the land of Linux, but can't seem to find the 'key' to do so. This book is pleasant to read, to view, and to find things in. It's not perfect, but it comes the closest I've found so far to being so. It got Linux Mint into my computer and running fairly well. I have yet to read all of it so far.

How do I run a program in Linux?
A very simple, yet vital question. Yet "Linux in easy steps" doesn't bother to explain. Very limited scope.

Excellent for first-time users
It's always difficult to find technical books that are not either too basic or too advanced. I'm a long-time computer user but not too familiar with Linux and found this book ideal for someone, maybe coming from Windows, who just wants to use Linux for the usual web-browsing, office and other normal home-use activities.

Useful source of help
As a new user to Linux I was keen to find a non web based source of help. Although there is lots of online based Linux help out there, a lot assume a lot of prior knowledge an solutions appear in the form of line upon line of complex code. This book is a great source of basic help, particularly if you go for the Mint version of Linux (the most user friendly).
