Winner for convenience and texture
We need to thicken liquids for my son due to a swallowing issue, and SimplyThick is our thickener of choice. It's fairly expensive, but it allows us to mix things up ahead of time -- crucial for travel with a toddler, daycare, playdates, etc. It blends in more easily than powdered thickeners, although vigorous shaking helps. We use the Munchkin Click Lock Weighted Flexi Straw Trainer Cup, Green, 7 Ounce ; it turns out that weight on the straw also makes a fantastic agitator for gel incorporation. Mixing with a spoon is a definite non-starter. Just don't. A fork is doable, but shaking is pretty much the way to go.For flavor and texture, SimplyThick beats the powders easily. While I'm not required to drink thickened liquids, I figured I should see what they were like, and powder-thickened water is kind of gross. So, there's that. The dispenser pump works fine, though it's not orange anymore; I've ordered at least 12 bottles of this from a few suppliers and have yet to get an orange pump. One thing to note is that different liquids start with different viscosity, so milk e.g. will end up a little thicker with the same amount of SimplyThick. My son's speech therapist was able to check for us that everything was within the correct parameters.Because of the large bottle, there's often a lot left at the bottom that the pump can't reach. We transfer it into a tall, narrow container and continue to use the pump. Technically you can weigh it, instead, but ain't nobody got time for that when the baby's screaming for milk.

My son was born with CDH and has difficulty with his swallow after having an ng tube the first year of his life. His team of doctors recommended Simply Thick and it greatly approved his ability to take more liquids by mouth. He started out on nectar thick and has since moved on to half nectar strength. I like the convenience of the pump, how each dose is measured with simply one pump. And it's much more convenient than having to open the small packets all the time.A few drawbacks: The pump works great when the bottle is full. However once the bottle starts to empty the pump starts acting up by not delivering full dosages. There are tricks you can do such as tilting the bottle, etc, however it gets a bit old. Also, you do have to shake or stir quite a bit in order for it to dissolve completely.Overall I would recommend this thickener over other brands since the consistency stays the same once you thicken the liquid and doesn't continue to get thicker the longer it sits.

Great product but hard to dispense. Great Customer service by Manufacturer
This products has relieved a lot of the mixing problems of thickening liquids for our family member with swallowing difficulties. We were stirring and stirring the dry thickening powders without much success. This products shakes in quickly and stays stable (doesn't continue to thicken) in the liquid. I agree that the manufacturer has a problem with the product being hard to get out once it gets down to 2-3 inches in the bottom. We contacted the manufacturer and they spent quite a bit of time on the phone explaining the problem and offering solutions. One idea they mentioned is allowing the bottle to stay upside down for a while and it will slowing slide to the "top" so it can be poured out. They said the product can then be stored in a container which allows access by a tablespoon to put it in the liquid (we use a pint jar). They said one T is equal to one squirt for 4 oz of liquid. Hope they are able to solve the dispenser problem soon but love the product. We have developed other methods of saving the remnant left in the bottle of this expensive product and will be glad to share those with any Amazon users who need the info.l

Works best
I use this for my husband who has swallowing difficulties due to a stroke. The gel is so much better than powder thickening agents. I can mix up a gallon of thickened water and keep it in the fridge and it doesn't keep getting thicker like powder-thickened liquids do. I used the packets for a few weeks, but got really tired of always having to cut the tops off and squeeze the get out, then having to gather up all of the little pieces of plastic to toss out. The pump is so easy to use and there's no debris to throw away. I do question if I will be able to use every drop of gel one it gets near empty. I wanted a new pump for each bottle so I found a place to buy it where I could buy a case of six and each has a new pump for much less per bottle. I recommend this for adult users, not babies since there have been many health alerts regarding using it with infants.

Great for my daughter who needs her liquids thickened!
My daughter aspirates fluid into her lungs when drinking "thin" (ie not thickened liquids) liquids. She has a milk and soy protein allergy as well as other food allergies. Our only option of thickening her formula is Simply Thick. Thank heavens for this product! Its kept her lungs clear of crap that shouldn't be there. I love that it has NO flavor AT ALL so my daughter doesnt even know its there. I love using the jug as you can thicken to nectar, honey or pudding thickness just by adding additional pumps. Super easy! Its very convenient to use while at home but on the go I prefer the single use packets although while in a pinch and out of packets I have measured out how much I use per bottle/per oz and put it in a 10 ml with a syringe cap on the end and placed in a plastic bag. Ive also put how much i need into the separate clean bottles and add the water and formula later on when needed.

so this thickener is probably the best you could buy
Ok, so this thickener is probably the best you could buy. It leaves less of a taste and doesn't make drinks grainy like all of the powdered thickeners. The pump makes for very easy dispensing, BUT, the pump stops an inch before the bottom of the container, leaving A LOT of thickener at the bottom. You can see by the bottles design that its not exactly easy to get the gel from the bottom. If this were fixed it would be a five star product. Also, as a side not, the drink you're thickening needs to be shaken, not stirred, or you'll have bits of gel floating in your drink.
