The Last Boy Scout / Dead-Bang / Action Jackson

Stupid but fun.
It's hard to list the many way in which this 1980s blaxploitation film is bad, but here are some:* Lame comic relief. We begin with a black street punk who snatches a purse from a fat black woman, only to have the woman beat him up with her purse. He's nabbed, taken to the police station, then faints upon seeing Action Jackson (Carl Weather).* Stereotypical cardboard police captain. He's by-the-books, comes down hard on Action Jackson's cowboy tactics, but is also a hen-pecked hubby who whines about his wife's "parchise night."* Waaaaay unrealistic street battles. Action Jackson has a gun battle on the streets, screaming at a driver who's waving a gun. Meanwhile, people are walking in the background as though nothing is happening (who directed these extras?) And this is after a car chase in which a truck carrying propane crashes into a car, creating a chain explosion of many innocent people's cars.* After all this, the police captain doesn't even mention all the dead civilians due to Jackson's cowboy tactics. No one does. It's like it doesn't matter.* Stereotypical evil rich businessman. When Action Jackson asks him, "Why?" he's planning what he is, he replies, "Power!" then follows it up with a speech glorifying power. Not a very complex motivation, which is also the result of...* Lazy scripting. When Jackson needs info, he goes to some hairdresser to learn "the word on the street." This sassy woman tells Jackson everything about what the evil businessman has done and is planning. Hey, HOW DOES SHE KNOW?* Stupid scripting. Jackson enters a billard hall to ask some questions, and is confronted by some tough guys who don't like questions. He's about to be castrated, when Vanity pops in with some lame story about Jackson being her crazy brother. So Jackson starts preaching about God, to convince the tough guys that he's crazy. Which they readily believe. HOW DUMB IS THAT? Of course, once they let go of Jackson, he beats all four of them up.* Contradictory scripting. Soon after the businessman explains his master plan (in great detail) to Action Jackson, Jackson asks, "What do you plan to do?" Huh? HE JUST TOLD YOU!* Awful 1980s hairstyles and fashion. One hit man has looooong feather blond hair, looking like a heavy metal singer. (His face looks like Kato Kalin). He dresses in full leather body suits, likes his cohorts. Pretty noticeable, no? Yet these hitmen are called "the invisible men," because of their ability to "blend in" and not be noticed. Yeah, right.* Vanity is a heroin addict, yet she's smart, sassy, capable, and looks remarkably healthy. Apparently, a heroin fix a day leave no scars, no problem.* Jackson calls Vanity a "junkie" throughout the film. At the film's end, she's fallen in love with him and says, "Ex-junkie!" Just like that. And just like that, Jackson says, "All right!" Wow. I had no idea it was so easy to kick a heroin habit.* Lots of "cool sets" used for no good reason (other than that they look cool). Action Jackson sends Vanity into a bar to set up a meeting at a warehouse. When the man arrives, Jackson slides down a whinch chain, for no particular reason. Nor was there any real reason he couldn't enter the bar to see the man.* In the end, this fiftyish businessman and Jackson each hold a gun in a standoff. So what does the businessman do? He puts down his gun, because he'd rather karate-box Jackson. So Jackson sets down his gun too, and they karate-box. Yeah, that's how most aging businessmen prefer to deal with the police.* This was after Jackson drove a sports car into the businessman's mansion, up the stairs, and through the wall. (Good thing the hallways were wide enough to accomodate the car.) Nor was there a reason for this; the businessman wasn't planning on going anywhere. I guess it just looks cool to have a car driving through a mansion. This is film is really bad, with a mindless script and lazy unrealistic acting. Even so, it's dumb fun. Vanity and Sharon Stone (in a small role) are sexy. Sexy eye candy and mindless action, so enjoy.

Classic Carl Weathers
Best Carl Weathers film ever. Carl Weathers stars as: Jericho better known on the streets as Action Jackson- a bad ass street cop who plays by his own rules doing whatever it takes to get the job done by any means necessary. Craig T. Nelson plays Peter Dellaplane- a ruthless mastermind corrupted criminal taking over the city hellbent on destroying anyone who gets in his way, including Action Jackson. As Dellaplane's wife, Patrice (played by Sharon Stone) becomes more suspicious of the rumors and Jackson's intentions to bring down her husband and convict him of all accusation's, she puts herself in danger which leads Jackson to another source that can ultimately help him bring down Dellaplane in the end: Help from the lovely, Sydney Ash (played by Vanity)- a nightclub singer who's Peter's mistress. Together, Sydney and Jackson work together taking down bad guys teaching punks crime doesn't pay. If you're in to old school action packed suspense, then Action Jackson's where all the action's at.

80s bliss
Pure 80s action flick, the movie doesn’t take itself seriously. Think Last Action Hero, the movie is well done and a classic.

Totally Funn!!!
The only unfortunate things about this movie is that we lost Vanity (RIP) and there was never a second movie. It's a fun from beginning until the end. Thanks Amazon for the quick delivery.

ACTION JACKSON Blu-Ray Review
Like a blast from a .44 Magnum, Carl Weathers(Predator, Rocky) makes Action Jackson a hero who delivers the goods in charisma & excitement. He plays Detroit Police Sgt. Jericho Jackson, pitted against the brutal thugs of ruthless auto tycoon Peter Dellaplane(Craig T. Nelson), who's out to murder his way to political power. Jackson's also involved with Dellaplne's beautiful wife Patrice(Sharon Stone)- and his exotic mistress Sydney(singer Vanity). Framed up & hunted down by his fellow officers, Jackson sets up a desperate showdown that hurls Action Jackson toward a heart-stopping climax.

How do you like your ribs?
When a movie features this much testosterone and enough manliness to level a tower block, you just know any action loving DIY dodger is gonna find themselves in trash movie heaven. Thankfully, this Jackson delivers the Action like no other - so buckle up, sit back and let the good times roll...Detective Lt. Jericho "Action" Jackson (an awesome Carl Weathers, fresh from his stint in the other equally awesome 'Predator') is justifiably a little peeved following his demotion after a fracas with the son of Detroit industrialist Peter Dellaplane (a suitably oily Craig T. Nelson sporting an amusing slick back hair-doo) and then framing him for the murder of his wife (a pre-leg crossing Sharon Stone) - even though it was Dellapane himself who did the murderizing. Now, Jericho has to prove his innocence and between bouts of head bashing, grenade launching and automobile vaulting - he teams up with sultry drug addict Sydney Ash (Vanity) to bring an end to Dellaplane's smug grin and stupid hair. The film is an action fan's wet dream from the get go. Its suitably stupid yet clips along at a fair old pace not allowing you to get bored or wonder how silly any of this is: Lead Carl Weathers is excellent as Jericho and you really want to follow his character throughout. Great too are the usual array of 1980s action bit part actors (Robert Davi, Bill Duke, Ed O'Ross, Dennis Hayden) who really give the movie some character and flavour. Director Craig R. Baxley (who previously performed stunt duty on The A- Team and would go on to direct the gonzo awesome action hit 'Stone Cold') directs the movie with energy and an almost clinical dedication for destruction, you find yourself jaws agape at some of the marvellous stunt work on display. Its no surprise that this is an early effort from action movie supremo Joel Silver ('Die Hard', Last Boy Scout', 'Roadhouse') and his head busting fingers are all over this and I'm truly thankful.Warner Bros.' region free blu ray disc is a minor step up from the DVD release, but its great to have it in this format, however there are no extras or special features to speak of. All in all, the film is a good old boys big barrel of fun and continues to deliver. Highly recommended.

Not bad for mediocre movies,... and at an unbeatable price. But not true classics either...
Mixed bag here and I won't go into too many details about these three movies.Action Jackson - A would be James Bond as Black exploitation.Dead Bang - Neo-Nazis ahoi! And an investigator has to put his nose into it.The Last Boy Scout - Bruce Willis on the rampage, what else? Why did I buy it? Good question. The answer? The price. Nothing else. And to be completely honest, because I had some VHS tapes lying around that took some space and this would allow me to throw them to the dogs and make some useful space for some books instead, still keeping my movie collection intact (although quite frankly, these are not what I would call true collector items - all three are quite common products of those years).Still, since no real collection deserves that name unless complete, such as my Bruce Willis collection (and he did indeed appear in some good movies in his time), I opted to fill it with those other two clunkers for the price of one.So, in short, this has absolutely no intrinsic value to me, except for its compact package and three movies for the price of one. That's basically it.If you want three so-so movies for a popcorn and beer evening (easy living), without any other intention than to giggle here and there with family and friends, than these are ideal. Unpretentious and easy to swallow.Do I recommend it?What can I say that I have not said before? If you feel its worth it, yes. If not, stick to more intelligent subjects instead.Quality wise they are normal DVD transfers, nothing more and nothing less.Enjoy.
