Safari door handle review and installation
The handle works great after I replaced the plastic linkage snap with the one from the old handle. The new one was too big and never would have stayed in place. This installation was very hard and I had to figure out how every thing went in and worked without rubbing against the window track and door lock linkage parts. No videos or good information was available on the web that was helpful. You could not get an image with a camera or a video of this installation because everything was inside the door frame and hidden from view. You have to feel to find, remove and replace the two nuts ( I think they were 10mm) that hold the door handle on. I did do some grinding on the moving parts of this handle for extra clearance and used some good waterproof grease to lube the working parts. One thing I can tell ya is to make sure you put the working parts of the handle (from the outside) around and on the other side of the covered door lock linkage. This is not an easy task, but it can be done. You can get a peek through the plastic hole cover next to the door latch. I did loosen the latch by taking 3 star screws out for a little better view, but don't try to disengage any of the other door linkage. It is not necessary. After installation, It works smooth and easy. GOOD LUCK with your installation.Hollwood

Replace broken door handle

Literally just the handle, albeit, a sturdy handle.
This door handle feels really sturdy. Although the whole mechanism is reliant upon a small piece of plastic, which I don't like. I think that's the case with most of these handles.Things you need to know. You'll need a screwdriver with a 5/32 star (?) bit and a 10 mm wrench. The wrench needs to fit into tiny places so don't plan on using a long one. Also, it does not come with the little nuts that you need to fasten it in. You might want to get those too. You just need two. One of mine broke coming out. Also, pay attention to whether your door is locked. I spent maybe an hour trying to figure out my problem and that was it.That being said, I, with very little car repair experiance, did replace this. But I probably won't do it again. I had an advantage that my door was already falling off.

Works great, smooth, feels good.
This is the third door handle I've put on my van. The OEM was broken when someone tried to break in to the van, and the replacement was an inexpensive (non-OEM) part that always felt kind of weak and "scratchy" (i.e. when you pulled the handle, it felt as if there was sand in the mechanism) and just was not confidence-inspiring. After a couple of years, the replacement handle literally snapped at the hinge area, so I looked for another replacement (sigh!). I saw this Depo part on Amazon, and the reviews were good, along with a good price, so I bought it. I got it installed fairly quickly (practice makes perfect!) and I am absolutely pleased with the operation. It feels smooth and strong - no wobbling, scratching or other odd behaviors, and the door opens with a very nice light touch, compared to the previous handle. I'd highly recommend this product.

Better than Dorman® at 1/2 the Price!
Even with my shop's supplier discount this Depo branded exterior handle came in cheaper than OEM so I gave it a try. WOW! 100% metal, minus the linkage retainer clip, and even that's a nicely resilient nylon instead of brittle plastic. Install is equal for all of these as one must remove the two retainer nuts and linkage wire (to the operator) so five stars for this one and any others in that respect. I'm on Astro/Safari #9 over the years so removing a door panel isn't really a big deal and offers a good chance to properly clean the panel anyway. Youtube University has folks cutting a hole in the door inset for install but honestly that method is equally tedious and more expensive than doing it right. I guess they never heard of a wobble socket or 10mm spanner wrench. Two 10 mm nuts need to be pulled from your old handle to be reused for this one (and all of them) as nuts aren't included. GREAT PRODUCT! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

'94 safari 1 hour install - Did not come with bolts.
After reading the other reviews, I made sure to time myself on this one; just over one hour.I'm handy enough, but this one was a little tight and awkward, especially with the top bolt on the handle.I should also add that it was -10°C and snowing.Remove the inside door panel. You'll need a T20 torx for this. I found rolling the window down also helped to remove the top end of the panel. The window roller handle has a spring clip you'll need to remove also.Loosen the lock mechanism using a T30 torx bit.If your bolts are factory, they'll be 10mm. Mine weren't.The bottom bolt on the handle can be removed using a ratchet. The top would be easiest with a 10mm wrench, but is possible to remove with the ratchet if you're stubborn and have an extension. This kit I ordered didn't come with the two bolts you need, so I had to reuse mine.Best of luck
